Finally an Offering From Boston's Hardest Working Guitarist
by
Todd CM
Whether sitting in with a band on stage, in the studio, playing in one of his many bands, or giving lessons it is easy to see why Tony Savarino is not only the busiest guitarist in Boston, but also one of (if not the) most respected. Tony Savarino is a 6 string mad scientist and on his solo CD “Guitaring,” He offers up an eclectic alchemy of jazz, blues, country, rockabilly, and everything in between. Check out Barrelhaus Gutbucket Chicken Pickin, a song that makes you want to blast your car stereo and imagine yourself cruising around Broadway and 5th in Nashville TN. Jericho will have you snappin' your fingers and rockin' your head back 'n' forth in no time at all. Blues in Bb, a great mellow blues jam is also worth checking out. My personal favorite would have to be Russian Roulette; a song that reminds me a whole bunch of a certain 60's British secret agent. It's got the spy groove going on. If you are a fan of jazz, blues or country you should certainly check this out. If you're not, you should still check it out, it might just open your ears up a bit.
The Noise Rock Around Boston Review Of Guitaring

Naked Ear Records Guitaring 11-song CD Tony Savarino has been a guitar-slinging gun for hire for so many years in this city, it is hard to think of a band he hasn’t played in or sat in with. This solo record is a joyful mélange of diverse styles: blues, jazz, rockabilly, lounge, country, rock… this is nothing less than a loving tribute and salute to guitar picking that would make lovers of Chet Atkins, Steve Howe, Les Paul, Grant Green, and Roy Clark squeal with glee. It’s rare that a guitar album makes so many stylistic statements within one album and yet still remains fresh and interesting to so many sets of ears. Listen for a cameo by Ajda the Turkish Queen serving up her best Emmylou Harris in a classic Gram Parsons tune, followed by a secret track that will blow your speakers off the table! Rock on!
