Album Review

At the dawn of the decade, Papa Roach were one of many angst-ridden, tattooed alt-metal bands who mixed in rap with their grim guitars. At the close of the 2000s, the quartet has shed the rap and the angst, ditching all the alt-metal accoutrements to become a knowing update of an '80s Sunset Strip sleaze rock outfit. This is indeed the Metamorphosis hinted at in the title of their fifth album, and while it's possible to debate whether this transformation was inspired by creative or commercial motivations, there is no denying one key fact: Papa Roach may be all about parties now but they're still kind of grim, perhaps a result of the decision to bring back producer Jay Baumgardner, who helmed their 2000 debut, Infest. Still, Papa Roach is a long long way from the depths of Hinder — that decade of work does give the band a professional snap, plus it never quite seems that Jacoby Shaddix's heart is into slagging that "Hollywood W***e" he berates on the album's first single.

i guess i'll be the one who proves the haters wrong

i never claimed to be the number one papa roach fan but, just like every other band that has stood the test of time, they change up their sound to keep their music fresh. and i like all of their albums. i have been listening to them since infest like all the "true" papa roach fans and this record might not rock as hard as infest or lovehatetragedy, but every song is just as solid. i saw them live last summer with buckcherry and hinder (i think that's what they were called, are they even still a band?) sadly, papa roach was the opening band even though they put on the tightest performance, put together the best mix of songs, and had highest energy level of the night. they were so intense, the crowd was louder than the band was. it's pretty funny the paramour sessions got a bad rap too, because it wasn't the same as infest either, but lyric-wise jacoby wrote some of the best songs i've ever heard and even though they weren't as heavy, they rocked them hard live. so to end this rant, at least get the intro and change or die from metamorphosis and if they don't get you into it then move on and bash some more talented bands.

Only 2 good songs

by Sublime!!

This album only has 2 good songs Lifeline and Hollywood W***e. But those 2 cant compare to Last Resort and Between Angels and Insects. They changed completely from Infest to this wanna be glam metal band. Glam metal is the only genre i dont like. They should make another album like Infest because their songs were better and more creative. I liked every album except for this. Please make another nu-metal album
