Fabulous Songwriting & Singing!

The Hairspray soundtrack is in a word, amazing. There is a large variety of music in the album, and every song is well-performed by the cast of the movie. I would highly recommend it to anybody.

Hairspray

(Not in any order.)
1. Good morning Baltimore
Cute tribute to a great city. I love nikki's voice. (I promise Baltimore that one day when I take to the floor, the world's going to wake up and see Baltimore and me)
2. Miss Baltimore crabs
My favorite song on the album. Hilarious! (the runner ups might still hold some grudges. They padded their cups but I screwed the judges!)
3. Cooties
Not a standout but pretty funny. Very rude though. (she's just as friendly as can be. Yeah she shows that cootie hospitality.)
4. It takes two
Kind of boring but it's nice to hear the girl power lyrics sung by a guy! (what's a king without a power behind the throne?)
5. Ladies' choice
I'm not a big zac efron fan (and I'm a 14 year old girl) but I adore this song. There is a lot of innuendo (or I'm just being immature) but the lyrics are pretty funny. I do prefer Matthew Morrison (aka Will Scheuster from glee) as link larkin though. (hey little girl looking for a sale, test drive this American male)
6. The nicest kids in town
Funny, but it works better in the context of the play/movie. (they'll never get to college but they'll still look cool, they're the nicest kids in town.)
7. The new girl in town
Funny but not a standout. (better lock up your man before he meets the new girl in town)
8. It's hairspray
Hilarious! A big advertisement for a fictional hairspray brand, ultraplush. (what makes a man reach out and touch? Ultraplush!)
9. You're timeless to me
Failure of flirting but a cute lovesong. John travolta in drag is just a riot. (you're like a fatal disease, babe. And there's no cure so let the fever rage.)
10. Run and tell that
African American power! (it takes place in the 1960s) (the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice)
11. Welcome to the 60s
Awesome makeover song! Edna (travolta) goes from frumpy to feminine. (Flattery will not distract miss turnblad's agent.)
12 Got so far to go
Kind of cheesy but still cute. (let's look back at the crazy clothes we wore...)
13. I know where i've been
Slow, but still a great song. African American power in a different way than run and tell that. I love queen latifah! (the night is as dark as my skin)
14. You can't stop the beat.
I love this song, it's so fun! (A woman found out if she shook it she could shake up a man, so I'm gonna shake and shimmy it the best I can)
15. Without love
Probably my second favorite song. Love song between two couples (one biracial)(in my ivory tower, life was just a hostess snack but now I've tasted chocolate I'm never going back.)
16. I can hear the bells
Cute dream sequence. Tracy, who is overweight, compares love to a boxing match and exclaims "much to your surprise, this heavyweight champion takes the prize." (my father will smile as he walks me down the aisle, my mother starts to cry but I can't see cos link and I are french kissin- listen! I can hear the bells.)
17. Big blonde and beautiful
Fun girl power song. You go, queen latifah! (who wants a twig when you can have the whole tree?)
18. Big blonde and beautiful reprise
Okay, but it works better in the context of the play/movie. (you're probably tired of heavy lifting, get your hands on something small.)
19. Mama I'm a big girl now
Great song~ I don't know why it got banished to the credits. (I got my best dancing lessons from you. You're the one who taught me to twist and shout cos you shout so much and you're so twisted too!)

Good

i like it
