Album Review

Hand Built by Robots is the debut album by British singer/songwriter Newton Faulkner, who has been compared to many of his peers whom he supported on their U.K. tours, including James Morrison and Paolo Nutini. The intentions of the album are made clear on "Intro," 34 seconds of acoustic guitar picking, and as he moves into the album proper on the tracks "To the Light" and the first single to be released, "I Need Something," there is more of the same: pleasant songs with a minimum of backing. "All I Got" reminds one of Extreme's "More Than Words" and on the second single, "Dream Catch Me," there is much more meat on the bones of the song — and this finally propelled him into the Top Ten for the first time. For just over a minute, one really is wafted away to an Indian restaurant on the mini track/interlude "Sitar-y Thing," and there are several of these short interludes scattered throughout the second half of the album, including "Face Her" and "She's Got the Time," which wouldn't sound out of place on one of Paul Simon's world record albums. A cover of the Massive Attack ethereal song "Teardrop" is stripped bare and translated to an acoustic version with none of the power of the original, but possibly more feeling. The album entered the charts at number three and, surprisingly, climbed to the very top several weeks later.

Incredible Musician and Songwriter!

Fans of J Mraz, make sure you leave room for the next amazing guy to blow you away with incredible musicianship, lyrics, and song craftsmanship! This guy (at only 23) is one of the most impressive new artists I have heard in recent years! His eclectic playing style couple with creating percussive sounds on his guitar makes for a fantastic album. "To The Light" is a great way to truly start the album. It prepares you for the next 4 songs ("I Need Something," "All I Got," "Dream Catch Me," and "Feels Like Home") are destined for alternative radio. "Teardrop" is a fresh take on a Massive Attack tune. "Gone In The Morning" is and incredibly well-written song about wanting to have someone to join him in his vivid dreams. Uplifting is the only way to describe "People Should Smile More." One of the best songs is "Ageing Superhero," a great retrospective on the life. Buy it and you won't regret it. Find him in your town and you will be blown away at his live performance. Don't let his long dreads fool you- this guy is for real! Newton Faulkner- you are absolutely incredible. Come back to Nashville anytime!

At last, a great album from UK

I've been listening Newton from over a year, and waiting the album on iTunes. It's a great artist with great music.

Best thing out of the UK since Coldplay

This guy is phenomonally talented and fun. His songs are awesome and so are his lyrics. Get this album and try and prove me wrong that he's not one of the greastest things out Britain. Good luck. *I also bought this album when I was last in London a few months ago and it didnt come with Full Fat which is awesome song so why is iTunes so dumb as to not let me download it??? Sometimes my love for you guys is tainted with silly marketing ploys like these, it really hurts
