iTunes Review
Fans of Postal Service and Noah and the Whale should waste no time exploring the Freelance Whales, a band whose sound approximates a campfire mash-up of those two groups. Weathervanes offers sunny glockenspiel- and banjo-driven folk/pop, Judah Dadone’s waifish vocals dueting with quirky synths and cellos — not to mention harmonium and even a waterphone (a bowed instrument that sounds like a distant, hipper cousin of the Theremin). This smart quintet from Queens honed their skills “busking” in subways and public parks and their music has a certain organic, naive quality. On tracks like “Ghosting,” and “The Great Estates,” a youthful chorus of voices is partnered with tremeloed guitars, eerie keyboards and carefully struck glock notes, and on songs like the two “Generators” (“First Floor” and “Second Floor”), the weaving of the ol’ plucky banjo with gurgling synths and an aural wash of harmonium somehow makes perfect sense. Brief instrumental interludes every few songs use music box plinking and ambient thrumming to clever effect, serving as bookends for sections of this enchanting and impressive debut.

Rare, Wonderful Find
I can't say enough about how great this new band is. I was introduced to them through a blog saying people that liked The Postal Service would love this group whether they loved or hated Owl City. I was sceptical but gave it a listen and fell almost instantly in love. This group surpasses them both! This is an intelligent, musically literate group of multi-instrumentalists that craft lovely melodies in both electrical and acoustic arrangements. I'm so glad its finally on ITunes so that I can get the full album and support this incredible group! Stand out tracks for me are Generator(First Floor)' and 'Hannah'. For an eerie Sufjan vibe listen to 'Broken Horse'. There really isn't one bad song on the album.
Wonderful find
I'm motivated to write my first itunes review by this fantastic album. Entrancing music. Highly listenable, yet fascinating to listen to. Reminded me of Cloud Cult, Ben Sollee and Andrew Bird, all of whom I like, but it had more emotional depth and musical interest for me than any of them. Among my favorite tracks are Hannah, Generator (Second Floor), Starring and Ghosting.
Just what I needed.
These guys are incredible. Every little noise is perfectly in place. Writing my first review because everyone should know how powerful this music is. Soothing to my soul. A billion stars to this album..
