Album Review
On her second album, Harmonium, singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton enlists her boyfriend, Stephan Jenkins — best-known as the frontman of the popular post-grunge band Third Eye Blind — as a producer and co-songwriter, and his presence doesn't so much alter Carlton's music as give it a sharper, direct focus. Carlton and Jenkins focus on the lush, dramatic teen-age angst that made "A Thousand Miles" a big hit in 2002, using that song as the template for a collection of songs that are intimate on a grand scale. Carlton's songs often read like diary entries, dealing with such familiar adolescent themes as love and longing, and they sound even smaller when delivered in her thin but appealing girlish voice, but they gain stature when married to the cinematic arrangements, driven by her insistent, circular piano and dressed by light layers of strings, guitars, and vocal overdubs. Where her Be Not Nobody debut could sound endearingly awkward, Harmonium is confident and somber, a conscious attempt to be serious and mature.

Best album ever
by jkjkjdThis is probably the best album ever with the best song besides A Thousand Miles, White Houses. Why the F**k isn't it the most popular song? All you idiots who hate it, F**k you.
:)
by chillinalwayssome people think that this album is nowhere near as good as her other two but thats probably because this album isnt exactly the sort of music you hear on the radio all the time. it has this darker, more meaningful tone that all the piano does a really good job capturing. although it isnt necessarily something youll fall in love with immediately, the more you listen to the songs, the better they become. personally, i felt like there was more depth to this one than her first one. it was really well put together.
The album that no one heard.
by Simplepleasures.Harmonium by Vanessa Carlton is her best album yet. To be honest with you, I never cared for her debut - Be Not Nobody. I thought the production on that album was over-produced and too lush. Harmonium is gentle but hard-hitting and a pleasant surprise. Vanessa is not a strong vocalist but she more than makes up for it with her lyrics and piano arrangements. Too bad this album was a flop because I think it's a masterpiece. Best song: Afterglow.
