Album Review

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2, the final installment in the decade-long wizard saga, found Alexander Desplat navigating some treacherous waters. After being handed the arduous task of helming the penultimate entry in the series, the fourth and final composer of Potterdom (John Williams laid the foundation, while Patrick Doyle and Nicholas Hooper fleshed out the midsection) had to come up with something that matched the film's the massive endgame. Many fans, including director David Yates, had hoped that Williams would return to the fold and close the lid on the tale, but conflicting schedules kept the venerable maestro from committing. Those fans will be disappointed by the lack of a prominent iteration of his iconic “Hedwig’s Theme” (though it does swoop in occasionally to remind us of what a long journey it’s been), but Desplat offers up some solace with a stoic and stirring new theme in “Statues” and “Courtyard Apocalypse” that will likely become a favorite of muggles everywhere. Creating a successful musical arc over the span of eight films is daunting, and the four composers involved should all be applauded for their work, as each has brought something special to the franchise while maintaining the “feel” of author J.K. Rowling's unique world. Bombastic, sinister, and triumphant, the appropriately dark and apocalyptic Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2 may sit near the bottom of the Potter soundtrack pile, but it can hardly be called a failure.

The End Of My Childhood and yet...

I cant wait to hear Desplats score I know it will be astonishing, A brilliant end to the series. Although I am sad it is ending I could not be happier that it went out with a bang, proving once and for all. All Was Well.

Bittersweet ending to a FANTASTIC series

I have music from all of the Harry Potter scores, Sorcerer's Stone to Deathly Hallows, however, in recent scores the main theme "Hedwig's Theme" that became a pop culture hit has faded and while I'm sure in the film they'll be small splices of it layed within its run. It does sadden me that its not as prevolent in more previous scores than it once was. But, then again for those who've read the books we all know that the same young, loving boy has grown up into a man and the story ends with hell breaking loose and in my opinion probably the greatest story of good vs. evil ever written. So, in that regard I can understand why "Hedwig's Theme" isn't seen that much, but I do hope that in the film we do get to hear its magical tone once more. I'm not a grand fan of this new score, but nonetheless it does embody the final EPIC feel of a 14yr old saga! And for that 5 out of 5 hands down! Go Harry!!!!

A Legacy

We protected the Stone
We opened the Chamber
We released the Prisoner
We put our names in the Goblet
We fought for the Order
We saw the Prince
We found the Hallows

We have read every book and seen it all come to life....

And when i watched the last movie, i CRIED
Not because i was sad, but because it was so powerful and the characters were so strong
This is emotionally preserved in all of these songs, whether it is lily's theme or snape's demise or courtyard apocalypse.....

This is A LEGACY
