iTunes Review
Even though one of the standout tracks from Chevelle’s sixth studio full-length is titled “Same Old Trip,” the Grayslake, Ill., trio is noticeably distancing itself from the same old sound that previously garnered it many a comparison to Helmet. The band hasn't lost that familiar rock power, but it's taking more successful risks here and throughout Hats off to the Bull. Melodic hooks take center stage in “Same Old Trip,” as bassist Dean Bernardini and his wife, Natalie Loeffler (sister to founding members Pete and Sam Loeffler), provide beautifully layered vocal harmonies to accompany frontman Pete's urgent inflections. The topically themed “Face to the Floor” opens the album with an anthem for the Occupy movement; a bludgeoning rhythm section and meaty guitar riffs hammer out the song as Loeffler rails against the schemes that sucker-punched the U.S. economy. The title track starts with a hushed approach and sultry feel before exploding into the album’s most dynamic and powerful song. Hats off to the Bull closes with the exclusive track “Indifference.”

REAL REVIEW RIGHT HERE!
This year's Chevelle album has definitely done something. No, it's not as heavy. I'm also aware that this is not a "Wonder What's Next" that's obvious. People need to realize that maybe just MAYBE the guys wanted to change it up and do something a little different. Would you want someone to give you crap for wanting to do something different? Think about it. The vocals are GREAT and stand out just as much as their other work does. The songs are well written and ARE TRUE ROCK, nothing like the joke majority bands that won't be mentioned. If you like that heavy stuff then you are not a Chevelle fan, you are just into the genre. Remember people, good songs can be anything, not just heavy metal oriented melodies. Chevelle my message to you is congrats for still making good music and I hope all that read this will understand you a bit more. Other music to check out: Staind (Self titled): Staind and Wasting Light: Foo Fighters. Spread the word Chevelle has done a Great Job! BUY, DON'T STEAL.
A great addition to the Chevelle discography
I'll admit that I am biased from the start because Chevelle is my favorite band. They have a different feel to every album and i feel that is what makes them special. "Hats off to the Bull" is no different. This album is harder than "Sci-Fi Crimes" but it has the softer songs as well. An overall great album and one I will be listening to for years to come. They nailed it. I think this is Pete's best album Vocally as well.
1. Face to the Floor - (8/10) I love the guitar riff as well as the meaning of the lyrics. The breakdown in this song is intense and is a great choice in a first single.
2. Same Old Trip - (7.5/10) this is different compared to most Chevelle songs, but it is very catchy and Pete's voice is incredible.
3. Ruse - (9/10) This is a great song. I love the lyrics, and its is a stand out song on this album
4. The Meddler - (11/10) An absolute must have for any Chevelle fan. Easily my favorite song on the album. It. Rocks. So. Hard. Can't praise it enough.
5. 05 Pinata - (9.5/10) I love the lyrics as well as Pete's voice in this song. The guitar in this song is awesome. I strongly recommend buying this song.
6. Envy - (8/10) a slower song but really hits hard at the end. I consider this "Panic Prone #2"
7. Hats off to the Bull - (8.5/10) a great title track. Very hard hitting and i feel another great contribution to the album.
8. Arise - (7/10) - this track just doesn't do it for me, but i still like it and I know a lot of people will enjoy it. I like the bridge in this song which saves it for me.
9. Revenge - (7.5/10) a decent track, really good at the end. The bass riff in this song is very enjoyable.
10. Prima Donna - (7.5/10) an accoustic song that is a good addition to the album. Pete's voice carries this song and the lyrics are great
11. Clones - (10/10) Amazing. Probably the hardest song I've heard from Chevelle. The guitar is so raw and I can't get enough of it. A must buy.
Darker, Heavier, and a Mature Step in the Right Direction
1. Face to the Floor - 8/10 - Catchy tune, shows Chevelle is back and heavier than before. 2. Same Old Trip - 10/10 - Once you get over the voice fluctuation in the chorus, the song really takes a hold of you. It is fast, it digs in your face and grips you with a catchy chorus. Much fuller sound than any other Chevelle song. 3. Ruse - 7.5/10 - This song is darker than most songs on the album. Guitar riff is fantastic. Vocals get a big iffy. 4. The Meddler - 11/10 - Best song on the album. So much heart was poured out into the making of this song. It starts off slow, but picks up and has one of the most killer birdges and endings of any Chevelle song made. 5. Pinata - 7/10 - A weaker link on the album, but it grows on ya. 6. Envy - 9/10 Great song. Great riffs. Some deep lyrics man. Gripping song. 7. Hats Off to the Bull - 6.5/10 - This is my least favorite song on the album. 8. Arise - 8/10 Good song, good chorus. 9. Revenge - 9.5/10 One of the stronger tracks on the album. Chorus reminiscent of This type of Thinking. 10. Prima Donna - 7.5/10 - The accoustic track of the album. Not bad. 11. Clones - 9.5/10 - This song makes me want to dance. Lol, I love it. I never thought I'd want to dance to a Chevelle song.
Overrall, this is a great album. Does not dissapoint. It takes a few risks, but brings a lot of heart to the table. Chevelle is growing up. =)
