iTunes Review

A three-man group from Waco, Texas, Strange Fruit Project first made waves with their small-run 2004 release Soul Travelin', garnering props from ?uestlove and BBC. The quality single "Milk ‘Em," co-starring Ghostface Killah, dropped the following year, setting the stage for The Healing, released by OM Records and considered their official debut LP for most of the world. Comprised of S1, Myth, and Myone, SFP deliver a solid 14-track effort, with no shortage of smart lyricism, smooth singing, and easy-to-dig beatwork. Like Little Brother (to whom they bear a striking musical resemblance), their style is laid-back and down-to-earth, more concerned with dope wordplay and soulful production than the usual Dirty South shenanigans. V.I.P.s like Jake One, Illmind, 9th Wonder, and Nicolay assist with the warm sonic backdrops, resulting in impressive jams such as "You (The Only Ones)," "Soul Clap," "Under Pressure," and "Get Live" featuring Lone Star State homie Erykah Badu.

No crunk here!

I love SFP :) I bought it because of an excelent recommendation from okayplayer.com. I bought it the 1st day it was released and I've been listening to it since. It's nice to see someone from the South go against the grain. My favorite tracks are 3 through 8. I also love the fact that I can listen to this around my 12 year old daughter without having to scramble for the skip button in my car (lol). 9th Wonder killed it on the production :)

The Healing

I have been waiting with longing for the return of hip hop. In a sea of mediocrity and empty lyrics, this album lives up to it's title and truly provides the healing. To everyone involved in making this project, thank you!

AYA

Om: Hip Hop for 07!!!! Keep bringing those great tunes. Peace to SFP for yet another classic. Peep the video "Pinball."

When MC and producer S1 (Symbolyc One), who grew up playing piano and drums in his church in Waco, TX, wanted to start a band, it made sense for him to look no further than fellow MC and cousin Myth (Mythological). Though not much ever came from their group, Symbolic Elementz, in 1998 S1 met Myone through work, and when the cousins decided to go to the studio, Myone tagged along. When he joined in on one song, the trio soon realized how well they worked together. They chose the name Strange Fruit...
