Track for track, this 1998 best-of collection offers the most definitive sampling of Heart’s releases on Mushroom and CBS. These tracks trace the rise of one of the most unexpected rock success stories of the ‘70s. The gale-force vocals Ann Wilson unleashes on “Crazy On You,” “Barracuda” and “Heartless” still sound gloriously ferocious; seductive numbers like “Magic Man” and “Bebe Le Strange” remain mesmerizing. The band’s more introspective side — underplayed during the ‘80s — is just as vital to their musical identity, as evidenced by folk pieces like “Dreamboat Annie” and “Dog & Butterfly.” Covers of classic R&B tunes (“Tell It Like it Is”) and experiments in radio-friendly power balladry (“How Can I Refuse”) find Heart branching out at the end of their CBS period. Beefing up this package is the band’s live rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll” from 1980 and the newly recorded ballad “Strong, Strong Wind.” For anyone looking for a no-filler summation of Heart’s first run of success as well as some noteworthy previously unreleased material.

Love this album
This is my favorite Heart album because you get a great mix of their stuff in the begining and some of the songs they did later. You don't even hear Little Queen on the radio that often anymore and not many albums have that song. My roommates dog actually ate my CD, had to download it asap!
I'm a guy and actually bought this album
Thankfully when Heart did Rock Honors they did their older stuff and not the sell out pop garbage of the 80's. This early stuff really isn't bad, it actually reminds me of what a female Deep Purple or Blackmore's Rainbow would sound like. Fans of 70's Hard Rock should really have this album.
