Album Review
Heart was pretty much considered washed up when they released Heart in 1985. They learned a few important things while they had taken a short sabbatical — they knew that hooks were important and they knew they could play up their looks for MTV. So, they delivered both with Heart, giving their audience anthemic hooks and tightly corseted bosoms, leading to the most popular album they ever had. This doesn't mean it's the best, since its calculated mainstream bent may disarm some long-term fans, but it is true that they do this better than many of their peers, not just because they have good polished material from professional songwriters but because they can deliver this material professionally themselves. Yes, "These Dreams," "Never," and "What About Love" don't quite fit into the classic Heart mode, but they are good mid-'80s mainstream material, delivered as flawlessly as possible. There's still a lot of filler on this record, but the best moments are among the best mainstream AOR of its era.

by BigGunDownThereAnn, Nancy I'm not mad at you, ya gotta pay the rent somehow. But if you're going to cross over to mainstream do it with some trace of dignity. I don't think I've ever seen a good band go to such a level. Metallica knew that when they went commercial they could still play heavy music and experiment. It was a shame to see Aerosmith cross over at the cost of quality but at least they had a good amount of old raunchiness still in them. But Heart just gave up on rock music in the 80's and figured if you couldn't beat em join em. Never join you're enemies unless you want to dress like idiots, remove all quality of rock in favor of sappy ballads, and gain a ton of weight. And people, how many times do I have to say, WRITE YOUR OWN SONGS!!! The only reason Michael Jackson gets away with thisZZ Top stayed popular in the 80's by experimenting with the latest fads while still maintaining their core sound and wrote everything themselves, not going commercial and hiring pop writers to help them out (they set a great example). Another good band lost to commercialization.
The Best Album Of All Time
by iflookscouldkill87In my opinion at least :) Heart's self-titled 1985 effort, put the band back at the top of the charts and into sold out arenas all over the world. Ann Wilson's voice sears, scorches, coos and shakes while Nancy complements and even takes the lead on their first #1 hit "These Dreams". The album is very cohesive and runs together superbly well. Kicking of with "If Looks Could Kill" (which should have been another #1 hit if not a top ten) and ending with the rocking "Shell Shock". Die hard Heart fans and first time listeners should pick this up, it's a must have for everyone!
A Great Comeback Album, And One Of Their Best Overall
by funnykid6Heart to me is one of the best bands out their today!! I mean Ann Wilson has one of the greatest voices i have ever heard in my life. She's one of those people who can sing the frikkon telephone book and make it sound good!! Nancy also has some great vocals (not nearly as good as Ann) but she is also one of the best guitar players i have ever heard. This album is one of their best, if not their best album. The best song on here overall is What About Love, it's a classic and pretty much everyone has heard of it. Amazing vocals, great lyrics, and an amaazing songs. The beats are really addicting and meaningful. Never is great too, i love it so much, very addicting as well, these dreams is really amazing. A classic!! It could put you to sleep, and at the same time excite you as well. The chorus is amazing in this song. If looks could kill is also great and a very impowering song to some people, and nothin' at all is a very nice addicting aong as well. Overall this album is amazing, and one of the best albums for any Heart fan out their!! Rock on Heart!!!!! :]
