Thank Heavens for Heavens Above!
This is going down as one of the best albums I've heard in 2008. I was fortunate to be at the CD Release Show at the Tin Angel in Philly before Joseph and his band left for a month tour of Germany. Once again, the show was one of the best live shows I've ever attended. While the more commercial Tell Me Hello could easily be the theme song of some light-hearted romantic comedy, there are more gems on this CD. The standouts are Heavens Above (THE best hurricane song every written!), Sky Boys and Dume Room. Shades of Gray, with Joseph's deep voice and haunting lyrics, shadowed by band guitarist Ross Bellenoit's subtle bluesy slide guitar is outstanding. Listen to the lyrics. They'll make you cry. Joseph Parson's label is Europe's Blue Rose and, unfortunately for us in the States, that's where most of the live shows happen. But, if you can catch an occasional band or solo show stateside, don't miss that chance.
Better than Yoga
Joseph Parsons is my new favorite artist. I can't stop listening to this album. I love every song on Heavens Above. Just when I think I have found my favorite song I hear another one from this album and I love it even more.
