Amazing Retro-Pop

In a city known for dreary skies and long stretches of sunless days, it comes as a surprise that Seattle can produce such bouncy pop. If one assumes that Seattle is still stuck in the Grunge-era angst, then Curtains For You will change one's opinion. Layers of lush harmonies float over clever arrangements featuring horns and Mellotrons, all while being anchored by airtight pop-writing. At times they invoke the exuberant pop sensibilites of Lennon and McCartney, and at times they are channeling a much earlier era of popular music. It is as if the band is stuck in a time warp between the 1960s and the 1930s. An incredible debut record!

Ten out of Ten

There is nothing I love more than a good dose of thoughtful well written pop music. This is not the work of a gang of cynical chart hit seekers but people who love to play music and may well find a hit or two in their bag of tricks. I agree with Seattle Sam and his review and can't add much more but my favorite tune on the record is "Each and Everyone", so I urge everyone to buy that at least, if not the entire album. It's only 9.99 for a bloody good record. Also, if you can catch these guys live, they have a nice selection of covers. I would love to hear an early Kinks tune along the line of "Well Respected Man About Town". Until then, I'll continue to go to gigs and buy their records.

Among their many influences...
