Thank God
This cover redeems Jay at least on a vocal level. "The Search" sounds more like Jay searching for decent pitch. Thank God there was a reference point for a proper melody line. Nice cover. Son Volt should do more of them.

Nice departure from normal sound
Jay Farrar shows his ability to expand beyond his more comfortable alt-country style and does a great job covering the Beatles while at the same time reminding us it is Jay at the microphone. This song is a great addition to the Son Volt fan's collection.

After touring in support of their 1993 masterpiece, Anodyne, the seminal alternative country band Uncle Tupelo split up over long-simmering creative differences between co-leaders Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy. Tweedy recruited much of the band to form Wilco, while Farrar teamed up with original Tupelo drummer Mike Heidorn to form Son Volt, the more tradition-minded of the two Tupelo offshoots.
