iTunes Review

Dierks Bentley's fourth album literally kickstarts with "Life On The Run." That's right, the instrument introducing Feel That Fire is a revved up motorcycle tearing off into the night as a beefy baritone guitar ushers in some heavily distorted electric twang before Bentley waxes desperado about living and loving the lone-wolf lifestyle. The song's bridge boasts a cool breakdown sounding like Bentley is crooning through the crackling speakers of a cop's walkie-talkie. Traditional tones and driving beats of the country rocking "Sideways" help keep the energy high and exciting while he sings about connecting with a tougher-than-nails blue-jean girl at a rowdy roadhouse. In between 2006's Long Trip Alone and this album, Bentley must have tangoed with one hell of a muse because in the catchy, boot-tapping title track she turns up again wearing his shirt to bed, painting her nails black, joy riding his truck, and making his heart melt like the watery pedal steel notes at the end of the tune. Things slow down on the romantic "I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes," a sweet serenade that comes off like a '70s Eagles hit with amorous lyrics and soaring vocal harmonies sure to make the cowgirls swoon.

Dierks outdid himself again

The three years spent writing and two years spent recording this album really paid off. It has something for everyone -- ballads (Pray, I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes, Beautiful World), good ol' beer-drinkin' songs (Sideways, Last Call), spiritual (Better Believer), etc. The weakest song of the bunch is actually one of two he didn't have a hand in writing -- I Can't Forget Her -- but even that is not lacking in strong vocals. I would most definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a solid country album. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Not bad, but not his best.

There's a few songs that are worthy of 5 stars. However, the album as a whole, is not. People hand out the 5 star rating too often and too easily. Dierks is my favorite nashville based country singer, thus I expected more from him. "Beautiful World", "I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes", and "I Can't Forget Her" are all excellent songs. However, there are tunes on here such as "Life on the Run", "Sideways" and "Little Heartwrecker" that aren't worthy to be on a Dierks album. It's sad how many of the artists these days that used to be so good seem to get worse with each album, ie-brad paisley. Hopefully this album is simply a bump in the road for Dierks and that his next album will get him back on track. Need more songs like, "I Wish It Would Break", "Settle for a Slowdown", "Long Trip Alone", "Trying to Stop Your Leaving", and "My Last Name."

Biography

Born: Phoenix, AZ

Genre: Country

Years Active: '00s

Growing up in a nonmusical family in Phoenix, AZ, country singer Dierks Bentley got his country music education on his own, listening to recordings. A love of the music inspired him to move to Nashville at the age of 19, but he quickly grew discouraged by the lack of public and professional interest coming his way. It all changed when he walked into the Station Inn, a bar where the bluegrass faithful hang out. An all-night jam session recharged his batteries and he restarted pursuing gigs. He landed...
