iTunes Review
From the Vault was titled in response to a settlement between Jill Scott and her former label Hidden Beach. Part of this settlement allowed Hidden Beach to dig into Scott’s archives and issue these previously unreleased recordings. But unlike so many unearthed outtakes from other artists, these gems shine. It opens with the golden groove of “I Don’t Know (Gotta Have You),” where Scott’s soulful restraint teases the listener as she teeters on the edge of wailing over sultry rhythms. Fans of old-school soul need look no further than “Wake Up Baby” which sounds like a slow-burning, late-‘60s slow jam. Jazzy Jeff produces a stellar cover of Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” where Scott’s layered vocals highlight her dynamic range over a pillowy backdrop of strings and horns arranged with that classic AM gold feel.

I feel soooo GUILTY
The truth is I am the Orignal Jill Scott Fan and to love this album is to feel like I have betrayed her, We all remember she had beef with Hidden Beach and that is why it took so long for her to drop. I bought 'Light of the Sun' in true allegiance to her, even though it feels like she wants to pursue a mainstream exceptance. THIS album is a collection of tracks Hidden Beach held hostage from her. I HATE that I love these tracks. I feel these are a truer reflectioin of the Jill I fell in love with from the beginning. She is the ultimate example of talent and creativity outside of mainstreams cookie cutter style. The experimentation presented in this compilation feels as if she wrote from the heart and pulled words from the many journals of poetry she has., Jill is my muse for love, life, and existence. I praise her for the essence she has and I will always LOVE what she does.
Good!!!
