Completely Exceeds all Hype and Expectations
I'll be the first to admit to being skeptical after the Brand New fiasco, but this EP is truly amazing. The Republic of Wolves takes the things I like best about them and throws in their own unique atmosphere, wonderful lyrics and stunning variety. The production is lacking a bit, but considering it was all recorded in the bands home studio, it's quite good. Hopefully, they are signed and give us a debut LP to remember. As is, this is already my favorite album of 2009 and my new favorite band. Completely mesmerizing. Favorite tracks: Spill, The Clouds, and A Weather Vane. Buy it now.
Great New Rock
Hopefully going to be the next big thing out of Long Island, their debut EP is fantastic.
Music for a New Era
Each generation for almost 100 years has had it's own defining musical characteristics. The world can clearly document substantial emergence of styles in each decade from the 20's through the 90's. Post 1999 music of the new millennium has had it's ups and downs, but has suffered from a distinct lack of a style. Republic of Wolves has created a unique sound that is a step in the right direction for modern music. Surreal and haunting, "His Old Branches" masters a tone attempted by such album's as Brand New's "Daisy." Learning from the mistakes and successes of the music that inspires them, Republic of Wolves moves forward with the conventions created by their predecessors. We are approaching a new era of music with the leadership of adventurous young musicians like these. As their sound continues to refine and improve ever further, the music world will hopefully watch this incredible band's ascendance to share their throne with the musicians they admire. This generation has finally found a sound to call it's own.
