One of many great Kyd soundtracks
Dutch composer Jesper Kyd has, along with his Japanese contemporary Nobuo Uematsu (whose work is also available on the ITMS) become one of the rising stars and main luminaries of video game musical scores. Kyd, like Uematsu, approaches a game score very differenty from a film score. He knows that when a player is performing an action that would usually trigger an action packed musical cue, the cue would go on long enough as to become very annoying. Kyd mainly focuses upon trying to create a piece that is interesting to listen to, both in and out of the context of the game. With Hitman 2, Kyd was just begining to really explore his artistic territory with the series. The tone is grand and orchestral, with only tracks like "Fast Ambiance" giving a hint of the more electronic, more tortured future of upcoming titles. The main theme makes use of the Hungarian National Choir of Budapest and to great effect, and my second favorite track, "Japanese Snow Castle" richly brings a haunting cello through a tense arpeggio. It's not as satisfying overall as the Hitman Contracts soundtrack, as there are a few tracks I rarely listen to, but it's better than 90% of most film score output. Give it a shot, and hopefully ITMS will add Kyd's other albums, Hitman Contracts (another thought provoking soundstrack), Freedom Fighters (rousing military and choral music) and the upcoming Hitman: Bloodmoney (samples of which are on Kyd's website, it's looking good already.)
Amazing Soundtrack
I am a long time fan of this series and always wanted the musical score. Kyd does an excellent job of creating the dark mood of a professional hitman. If you are a fan of soundtracks such as The Hunt for Red October and Pirates of the Caribbean, then Hitman 2 is a must! Good luck 47.
Excellent music for an excellent game
This is an excellent soundtrack for a good series of games. I can't wait to see what Jesper Kyd produces for Hitman: Blood Money.
