iTunes Review

The 1942 movie Holiday Inn might’ve been consigned to history as a pleasant but ephemeral trifle except for one thing: “White Christmas.” Bing Crosby’s tender rendition of this nostalgic Irving Berlin tune became an instant seasonal classic. The song is, of course, the pivotal number on the film’s soundtrack, an alternately blithe and sentimental affair featuring the vocals of Fred Astaire and Marjorie Reynolds as well as Der Bingle. The rest of its Berlin-penned songs serve to advance the story of two footloose entertainers (Crosby and Astaire) attempting to transform a New England farm into a hotel. Holiday-themed ditties range from the old-timey “Easter Parade” to the romantic “You’re Easy To Dance With.” and the zestful “Let’s Start the New Year Off Right.” Those in the mood for Crosby’s inimitable crooning will enjoy “Be Careful, It’s My Heart.” Another standout is “I’ll Capture Your Heart,” a playful Bing and Fred team-up for the ages. Though “White Christmas” overshadows everything else here, Holiday Inn contains enough musical bon-bons and creamy love tunes to commend it to the listener.

Holiday Inn - Bing Crosby

They didn't do many "soundtrack" album releases in this era, but this is one of the rare releases. Even looking at the cover, you really don't see any graphic tie-in with the movie. The songs included seem to be straight from the track(because of the age of the original, sound quality is so-so), including some Fred Astair work. This, of course, was the prequel to the movie "White Christmas" (which, by the way, did not release a pure soundtrack LP...it included Bing and Danny Kaye, but Peggy Lee was substituted for Rosemary Clooney). Holiday Inn includes some pretty famous (and not so famous) Irving Berlin tunes. You don't buy this album for the sound quality but for the great entertainers singing some great songs.

Found better album!

I found a better album (of course right after I bought this one)- the songs are straight out of the movie, with Marjorie Reynolds, etc. and even Fred Astaire's taps. And it's on sale for 9 dollars until July 2008. The album is called: Movie Classics: Holiday Inn - Road to Morocco - Two for tonight

Great songs by a great singer!

"Holiday Inn" has some great and fun songs which are very enjoyable. Yes this album sounds very old and some don't think it's worth the download but I have most of the songs and I dont find the crackling annoying because the music and ole Bing's voice is just really wonderful!

Bing Crosby was, without doubt, the most popular and influential media star of the first half of the 20th century. The undisputed best-selling artist until well into the rock era (with over half a billion records in circulation), the most popular radio star of all time, and the biggest box-office draw of the 1940s, Crosby dominated the entertainment world from the Depression until the mid-'50s, and proved just as influential as he was popular. Unlike the many vocal artists before him, Crosby grew...
