New Standards
What a treat this album is! Some of the tracks are unfamiliar even to hardcore opera fans, yet each sounds like it should be a standard. (In this sense, it reminds me of Villazon's excellent abum of French arias.) It's a testament to Fleming's musical curiousity and intelligence that she avoided a more typical disc of opera arias, and the whole is a great return to form after more disappointing forays into spiritual and jazz pieces. The selections on this album showcase Fleming's talent and gorgeous tone --- particularly the Korngold and the Strauss. Highly recommended.

Ms. Fleming, the diva, is back and more beautiful than ever. The Korngold and the Vissi d'arte, as well as the Lecrouvreur are stunning (actually EVERYTHING is)! I don't know that I've ever her sing more passionately in a recording than on this disc-- the end of Vissi d'arte expresses better than I. Highly, highly recommended! Homage Renee Fleming
This album is one of Fleming's most interesting. Vocally she is in excellent form (although some of the literature may not be appropriate for her lyrical voice to perform on stage). The intriguing choice of arias is of real value. Dalibor by Smetana is an opera which should be performed more often in international theatres. The aria confirms this, with theatrical and musical values. The Korngold selections echo his later success as both a vocal and instrumental composer of the first order. Particular interest is the little perform aria from Massenet's opera Cleopatre. Fleming truly is one of the finest performers of French operatic literature today. Her voice and musical sensibility here are nothing less than sterling. The Richard Strauss arias reaffirm Fleming's artistry and position as the finest Strauss soprano of the day. While all of Fleming's operatic albums are of interest this Homage to the great divas is the most interesting and compelling of all. The women she pays homage to relive through her vision. if you enjoy Renee Fleming, this is a MUST HAVE album.
