Customer Reviews
One of the most underrated indie bands today...
Well, since they are using an old review of Here comes Everyone. Here's my take on this album. Aloha has always been one of my favorite bands. You can't really pidgeon hole them into one sound. The way they fuse Jazz, kroutrock, psychedelia is unmatched. That being said, this album takes Aloha on a somewhat different course...
The album starts with "Building a fire", and it does just that. Driving bass to a welcomed buildup remiscent of "It wont be long" from the epic Sugar album.
"Moonless March" exhibits drummer Cale Parks skills at doing what he do.
"Microviolence" is where you start to hear something new from aloha. A tamed, somewhat pulled back Aloha that sounds like it could be Radioheads next single.
"Searchlight" brings some light to the listeners. "We want what everyone wants, good days and sunshine." Pure pop-ism at it's finest. i heard this song over 3 years a go at a live show and am pleased with it coming to fruition.
With "Everything goes my way", a haunting, driving riff takes you on a melodic journey of empowerment.
"White Wind slows it down a bit, but this is Aloha at it's core. This song bares closest resemblance to the work from The Light Works Ep.
"Cold Storage" kicks in with a thumping drumbeat driving to pop perfection. Somewhat formulaic as it is, the subtle waves and tidbits that make Aloha so great stand strong.
Then "Blackout" kicks in and it's a whole other band. The song straight up rocks your socks.
Ah "Waterwheel". Pure pop emotion coupled with lyrics to match. A true gem of a jam.
"I'm in trouble" slows the roll a bit. This is a song you put on when it's raining outside.
"Ruins" starts up with a driving beat and does not let go. This is the perfect song, the perfect closer. The last part rips into a shining pop revival.
Alohas is the type of music that grows after many listens. Each instrument carefully speaks a different story. One must be patient to truly soak in the goodness that Aloha delivers. Less xilaphone, more distortion. Is this where I would like to see Aloha go? I'm not sure yet. While this is not Alohas best effort, it's a nice introduction into a different direction.
Roll down the windows, and hit repeat!
Love, Love, Love. This album as an amazing energy. I can't stop listening to Moonless March, Searchlight & Cold Storage.
ummm
I think they are reviewing the wrong album or at least the song titles are wrong
