Honkey Kong

Honkey Kong

Hailing from Connecticut, Apathy got his start in the late-‘90s indie-rap explosion, appearing on numerous 12-inches and compilations with his brethren in the Demigodz collective. He was on the Jedi Mind Tricks debut album, is a member of both Army of the Pharoahs and Get Busy Committee, and has recorded extensively with Celph Titled and 7L & Esoteric, among others. After a short stint on Atlantic Records (he was granted a release after creative differences), he's been steadily dropping EPs and mixtapes ever since. Honkey Kong is his third proper solo album (following Eastern Philosophy and Wanna Snuggle?, and it finds him sticking to his standard M.O. of multilayered, densely worded, punchline-infused wordplay set to nose-breaking snares and freaky chopped samples. A quality mix of griminess, comedy, social commentary, and straight B-boy funk, this is arguably his best work to date. Check out "It's Only Hip Hop," "Check to Check," "Army of the Godz," and the Breakfast Club-channeling "East Coast Rapist."
