Album Review

Bristol's Starecase has given us a fair share of top-name remixes in the past (Timo Maas, Soft Cell, the Orb) but it wasn't until halfway into 2001 that they began coalescing ideas for their own debut album. This 12" double pack shows the duo's dive bomb technique — lay a blooming 4/4, tweak the breaks, fillet the vocals — with James Holden (aka Ariane) washing his minimal palette in the original basslines and the likes of the prog Miami Vice "Navigator" and the mean "Undecided" insinuating just where in the spectrum of low-energy seriousness Starecase aspire to.
