iTunes Review

Neil Diamond is a musical legend existing just outside the lines of the rock era. While he has recorded music that clearly rocks with defiance (“Holly Holy,” “Cherry, Cherry”), he has preferred to perfect his own singular brand of showmanship for a broad set of material that has plenty of Tin Pan Alley and Broadway in its soul. It is perhaps why he has become one of the most overlooked musical artists of the past century. (He is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). These performances recorded live at New York City’s Madison Square Garden in August 2008 make the case for Diamond as one of the most resilient and diverse entertainers still able to bring it to the stage. There is no absence of vocal power in “Beautiful Noise,” “Cracklin’ Rosie” and even “Sweet Caroline,” a song so infamous that the audience can carry it alone. “Love on the Rocks” retains its nightclub blues. “I’m A Believer,” “I Am…I Said,” “Forever In Blue Jeans,” “Solitary Man,” “Kentucky Woman,” the hits keep coming. Even tunes from his last solo album, Home Before Dark, such as the title track and “Pretty Amazing Grace,” hold their own against the better-known tunes.

A must buy!!!!

I saw Neil Diamond perform on this tour in Hartford Connecticut after his MSG concerts, and he was better than I have ever seen or heard him!! A must buy for any Diamond fans! Tons of energy and amazing vocals!

Finally.... another great live album!

His best vocal performance in well over a decade. As a true hot august night 1&2 fan I was very impressed by this effort. Production wise the sound engineers nailed this (yes there is post production in live albums) making him sound like he did in the glory years. I've not been a fan of any of his live albums since 1986, but love this one. The song selection was also reflective of his moving past some of the oldies and embracing his newer material. Fans will love how some of the songs are refreshed versions... Love on the rocks... Forever in blue jeans. Even if you own other of his live albums give this one a shot.

NEED MORE STARS!

Makes my day! Want to give it 10 stars out of 5. Thank you Neil - you are one of the very best of ALL time. This is true Rock and Roll!! Wonderful collection. Has me dancing this morning!! Wow, wow, wow. First music I've ever reviewed - so good I had to...

In a career that began in the 1960s, Neil Diamond became a major recording artist, an internationally successful touring act, and a songwriter whose compositions produced hits for himself and others. His earliest recognition, in fact, came as a songwriter associated with the Brill Building era of Tin Pan Alley in the early '60s. But he soon branched out into recording and performing, and by the early '70s was topping the charts with the self-written singles "Cracklin' Rosie" and "Song Sung Blue."...
