Album Review

Hotel rarely shows, in any shape or form, traceable inspiration from the new wave and post-punk era Moby advertised as being in full effect. The first half contains simple modern rock songs that tend to be anthemic and soul-searching in nature. Lead single "Beautiful" is one exception, a tongue-in-cheek thing Moby has imagined being sung by vacant celebrity couples. No matter how affable, vegan, liberal, and bespectacled he is, the real irony is that a millionaire and former love interest of Natalie Portman has made a song of this kind. A very gentle version of New Order's "Temptation" turns out to be the album's deepest connection to post-punk. This begins the non-rock portion of the program, which fans of Play and 18 might find easier to enjoy.

FIVE STAR HOTEL

if you are a fan of the song that ends all three BOURNE movies, "extreme ways" and the song "south side" from moby's album "play" then you'll really love this album. "hotel" features mostly rock inspired tracks but still a good amount of moby's trademark techno beats both as the foundations of some of the rock songs and also in some full tracks. basically if you like what moby does, he did not disappoint with "hotel"

I may not know Moby

--but I know what I like. ^_^ Okay, being silly. In my opinion, this is _overall_ the finest work that Moby has done so far, that I'm aware of. Again, I haven't heard everything he's ever released, and therefore have no idea what longtime Moby fans would groove on or would have been expecting. In other words, I hope the lack of reviews here doesn't mean that this has never attained much interest, because it's good. Or I suppose I could put it this way: "I'm currently looking for a new job, and decided that buying this album was more important than restocking the household coffee supply this week." Is that a better review? :D Ah well, whatever, never mind. ~^_^

LOVE THIS ALBUM!

Even with being a big Moby fan and with all his most excellent stuff hard to ignore, I just LOVE this effort, particularly "Lift me Up", can't stop listening to all the tracks....Moby is in general so fantastic with bringing so many sounds together no matter the mood, I was so lucky to see him in Boston recently, best show I have ever seen! Thank you Moby!!

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Moby was one of the most controversial figures in techno music, alternately praised for bringing a face to the notoriously anonymous electronic genre and scorned by hordes of techno artists and fans for diluting and trivializing the form. In either case, Moby was one of the most important dance music figures of the early '90s, helping bring the music to a mainstream audience both in England and in America. Moby fused rapid disco beats with heavy distorted guitars, punk rhythms, and detailed productions...
