Album Review

After a duo of detours (a youth worship record and a second Christmas offering), Grant returns with an album that doesn't even pretend to be gospel, but still reflects her ideologies. Mellower than Heart in Motion, the album sounds more like Lead Me On, but doesn't plumb its depths.

Customer Reviews

One of Amy's most addictive albums, yet brutally ironic

The fact that her relationship with then-husband Gary had crumbled and scandalous rumor had swirled regarding alleged cheating with Vince Gill didn't even seem to stop the success of this album. Or her House of Love tour for that matter, which I fondly remember attending in '94. House of Love rings true as the antithesis of something such as love, once so structurally sound, yet the cracks of which became so apparent. Through it all, her fans weren't swayed, because they could relate to her in the time of society where falling out of love was becoming okay. The disc shouldn't be held as a testament to what she was really going through, but it's hard to not think that she may have already found her spark in Vince before she began producing it, thereby inspiring it.

By the mid-'80s, when she released Unguarded,...
