Album Review

The band that played on the Titanic — at least in the movie version of the tale — has managed to build on that invaluable exposure. While there is some traditional music on here, perfectly competently played, the real focus is on Gaelic Storm's own material. They touch on themes that seem endemic to the Irish — homesickness and drinking, for the most part — in a musical blend that takes ideas from the tradition and mixes them with generally uptempo acoustic rock that's never offensive (unlike, say, the Pogues).

Gaelic Storm is amazing. Buy this.

Praise for a well-themed and perfectly executed album

by UpMayo

This album was nearly the "international" album of the year when it was released, and for good reason. As a whole, it is perfectly balanced set of songs and tunes exploring the many ways we deal with "home:" staying and leaving; yearning and returning; using it to define who we are, and who we want to become, or just leaving it for a too-short vacation. The instrumentals are as lively as any Gaelic Storm has ever done. The ballads are poignant. And the whole work is fun. Get this with "Tree" and you've got the best they've done.

One of their best albums

I've been a long time Gaelic Storm fan, pretty much since I first saw them in Titanic. This album is one of my favorites mostly due to songs like Born to Be a Bachelor, Punjab Paddy, Pina Colada in a Pint Glass, and one of my favorite instrumentals, The Lone-Star Stowaway. If you like Irish music, or are just looking for something not so main stream, check out Gaelic Storm. And if you ever get the chance to see them live, do it because they are amazing! GS 4 Life!
