Album Review

Nancy Sinatra's sophomore effort How Does That Grab You? sticks to her usual LP formula: a hit title track, a bunch of pop covers ("Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" is the best), and some unremarkable Lee Hazlewood songs, the exception being the classy Nancy & Lee duet "Sand." There are four notable bonus tracks on the CD reissue from 45's: the fuzz-guitar-driven single "Lightning's Girl" (one of her very best songs), a cover of Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Until It's Time for You to Go," the single "The Last of the Secret Agents," and the breezy California pop duet with her father, "Feelin' Kinda Sunday."

Customer Reviews

those who can't do, critique

i'm sure glad i haven't been listening to the reviews on nancy's work, because if i had i would have been really listening for myself. and i think her releases are much, much better than "formula." she's got great range and a "come hither" voice that defies the decades. here's to nancy with the smiling face!

It Grabs Me Like Lightning In A Bottle

This is music that melts in your mouth and in your heart. On her first albulm Nancy proved she has got the legs for the boots and on this albulm she proves she has the voice that will grab me all night long. Frank Sinatra's greatests contribution to music was his daughter.

Itunes reviewer clearly out of his/her element

Many of the reviews Itunes offers on Nancy Sinatra's albums are clearly written by the same author. The Itunes reviewer finds her albums formulaic and dull. It is clear that the writer does not like this kind of mid- 60s pop and should stick to music he/she can write meaningfully about. Nancy Sinatra has a lightly husky voice that lends itself well to stripped down melodramatic ballads and folk-style pop rock. There are a few duds on most of her albums, but there is so much to enjoy! Listen to track one (Not the lovin' kind) and if you enjoy it, continue exploring. I've never encountered any other sound quite like hers, especially when singing the Lee Hazlewood tunes.
