Don't miss it.

This is without a doubt, one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. Each song leads right into the next, creating something you can (and really should) listen to as a whole. The album's opener, "Spit The Dark" is a fantastic beginning that leads into a more rock song, "I Want Blood." And that's just the beginning of Howl, which contains many different styles that all somehow seem to fall together like a puzzle. Some personal favorites on this are "Valmont," "Midnight Land," and "Under the Bright Lights," which is currently my second most listened song (right behind a demo of another Empires song). The album closer, "Hayley," is another absolutely fantastic song. Just an acoustic guitar and Sean Van Vleet's voice make this ballad about a seventeen year old girl who couldn't handle the pressures of life into something more powerful than I'd ever be able to imagine. However, if you download nothing else, download Empires' first single, "All Night Long." This one track, more than anything I've heard, encapselates this band like none other. Please check out this band, made up of Sean Van Vleet, vocalist and keyboardist (and tambourinist), Tom Conrad and Max Steger on guitar, Alfred Smith on bass guitar, and Ryan J Luciani on drums. Listen to the album (it's not impossible to listen to it too many times - I've listened to it on repeat since May and not sick of it yet), go see them live, buy merch, they deserve it all.

Eat Your Heart Out TAI

Best album I've heard in a long time. Has something for everyone. From the happy go lucky "Believe!" to the darker "Midnight Land" to the acoustic "Hayley". Download this now and support a great band.

empires>the academy is...

Let's face it, after "Fast Times at Barrington High" TAI fans were left desiring more from our dear lord and savior Bill Beckett. However, perhaps we have been mistaken all along about The Academy Is... Maybe the true genius behind "Almost Here" was not our dear Beckett, but the departed member Tom Conrad. This explosive and exceptionally unique LP was by far the highlight of 2008, with a sound reminiscent of the earlier, more powerful "Almost Here"-era TAI, as well as choice insiration from The Killers before they began to ponder if they were"human or dancer", and earlier alt. influences like The Promise Ring. I am so beyond giddy with this album, I could dance. And being me, that's rare trust me. If you don't already have this album, you should do yourself a favour and purchase this gem ASAP. If you have a soul, you will like what you hear.
