iTunes Review

Since her late-‘90s success with Sixpence None the Richer, Leigh Nash has oscillated between secular tunes and Christian songs, sometimes blending the two. Hymns and Sacred Songs is exclusively spiritual, yet it possesses the beguiling charm of her mainstream folk-pop hits. Here she interprets traditional material (along with a few contemporary compositions) with a wide-eyed reverence that makes them sound fresh. Her new settings for the hymns “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” and “Oh Heart Bereaved and Lonely” aren’t so different from the atmospheric acoustic sounds of her Sixpence hits. Nash sings more recently composed tunes like “Power of the Cross” and “Song of Moses” in much the same spirit, giving their triumphant message of salvation a warmly yearning feel. Produced by John Hartley, the album is filled with small but lovely touches, like the stark banjo on “Be Still My Soul” and the fingersnapping percussion on “Come Ye Thankful People.” Beautifully sung and arranged, Hymns and Sacred Songs testifies to Nash’s faith and artistry.

Fresh and beautiful

It is refreshing to hear an original musical direction in sacred music. This is a beautiful and sincere collection of hymns. I believe these words as I sing them...it's not just regurgitated garbage calculated with a formula of mass-appeal used to make a dollar in the name of God.
Once again, beautifully done Leigh Nash. This is a blessing to me.

Fresh collection....

I KNEW the vocals would be spot on (I mean...it IS Leigh Nash and all). But the production and instrumentation is incredible. Love the grassroots feel. Funny how old songs + grassroots sound can sound SO fresh and new. What an incredible album!!

One of the best CDs of the year!

I'm a rock/conteperary kind of guy, but this is a brilliant album no matter who you are. I dont think I've ever run across a CD as unique as this before. I love the vocals and the feel she brings to this prodject. This CD is honest, peaceful and will be looked back on with smiles and warm hearts.

I would adivise anyone with a open mind and good taste to buy this album.

Leigh Nash is perhaps best known as the pixie-like singer with the heavenly voice from Sixpence None the Richer, a CCM group that enjoyed considerable fame in 1999 with the single "Kiss Me." She had started the band at age 14 with schoolmate Matt Slocum. Nearly half her life later, at age 27, Sixpence None the Richer split, albeit on good terms. Before the band called it quits, Nash had often considered working solo, if and when she would be band-less. Though the end of Sixpence left her a little...
