iTunes Review

It’s hard to imagine ‘60s pop music without the presence of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Intellectually-inclined yet always accessible, the duo rightly earned a vast and enduring following and The Best of Simon & Garfunkel provides a fine overview of how much they accomplished during their partnership. A certain genteel precision defined the duo’s sound from the start — 1964’s “The Sounds of Silence” set the template for future hits with its poetic lyrics and lustrous harmonies. Simon’s prodigious songwriting gifts produced such elegant expressions of yearning as “Homeward Bound,” “The Dangling Conversation” and “America” within a few productive years. Garfunkel distinguished himself with his angelic vocals on such showcases as “Scarborough Fair/Canticle” and the magnificent “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” From the quirky folk-pop of “Fakin’ It” to the rollicking social satire of “Mrs. Robinson” and the aching South American strains of “El Condor Pasa,” Simon and Garfunkel were consistently inventive. “My Little Town,” a 1975 reunion single, found them recapturing the spirit of their heyday. The Best of Simon & Garfunkel reaffirms just how solid their achievements remain.

It doesn't get any better than this.

I can't bring myself to critique this album, as that would involve pointing out the tiny, tiny flaws in this collection. And by tiny, I mean they're almost nonexistent and virtually no one cares about them anyway. Simon and Garfunkel are one of the all-time greats, with appeal to everyone. I'm a huge metalhead, and even on metal sites any reference to Simon and Garfunkel is considered to be a complement to the band being discused.

The best of this album: Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Sound of Silence, The Boxer, America.

Great!

These guys were introduced to me by a coworker as I was growing up. He made me a tape remember those LOL? It included many of these songs. I remebered a couple from the radio when I was young and my mother was driving me around. If you are into classic rock, you have to love this album. If you are like, who the heck are those guys? Like I was, listen to the demos for The Boxer, Mrs Robinson, Scarbourough Fair and Homeward Bound. You will know who they are. The boxer is my top pick.

AMAZING

The most successful folk-rock duo of the 1960s, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel crafted a series of memorable hit albums and singles featuring their choirboy harmonies, ringing acoustic and electric guitars, and Simon's acute, finely wrought songwriting. The pair always inhabited the more polished end of...
