Midwest rockers Motion City Soundtrack give their best post-grunge impression on their studio debut, I Am the Movie. It's probably the slickest thing Epitaph has released up to this point and pretty stylish compared to their celebrated punk roster (Bad Religion, Pennywise, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys), but who's to say that Motion City Soundtrack isn't worthy of being on such a label? I Am the Movie is layered with rich guitar hooks and small electronic bits are precisely tweaked throughout the 14-song set. The band's fierce musicianship is solid and frontman/guitarist Justin Pierre's emo-tinged vocals are charming, and fans of Jimmy Eat World and the like will enjoy that. What's made Epitaph a staple among the punk community all these years is their ability to single out the pure rock & roll grit, and Motion City Soundtrack doesn't exactly possess such energy. But don't write 'em off just yet. I Am the Movie is ambitious in presentation and pop kids latching onto the new-millennium wave of post-alternative rock will appreciate the band's whimsical rock sound. Motion City Soundtrack might be aiming for that polished punk-inspired style and obviously they're eager in effort, so the potential is there. There's nothing wrong with some shiny punk-pop.

There are only 6 reviews on this album, which kind of made me sad. Motion City Soundtrack is amazing. They aren't like all the other pop-punk bands out there, and this album is a great example of that. Their songs are fast and fun, and flat out rock. Yet at the same time, there are the songs that display a bit of stunning emotion (Indoor Living, Modern Chemistry, Autographs and Apologies). Justin Pierre is a master at writing beautiful well thought out lyrics, and the rest of the band knows how to pull it together just right. I Am the Movie is an amazing album, and in my opinion, is probably their best. It's not as polished as Commit This To Memory, but it's raw and show what Motion City Soundtrack can really do. Buy this album; you won't be dissapointed.

With all the recent success that MCS is now experiencing, I feel like people are completely ignoring this record. To start, I Am The Movie is INCREDIBLE. It captures this fantastic moment in MCS history that will never ever be experienced again. It is raw and energetic, and if new fans are diggin' the collective of these five men, they should throw aside Even If It Kills Me for a second, and listen to this. The lyrics are so inspiring and insightful, it's hard not to pay attention to what Justin Pierre is singing about. He is by far, one of the greatest writers on the planet, and if you can't even slightly relate to what he's singing, then you are not a human being. Standout tracks: Indoor Living, Perfect Teeth, Mary Without Sound, Autographs & Apologies. Actually, you know what? All of them are outstanding. Buy the entire record.

i am a huge motion city fan. this is their best album in my opinion because they are very expirimental. in their new album " Even If It Kills Me" Justin sounds the same with all his vocals. Cambridge- 6/10 ehh kinda boring not my favorite. Shiver-7/10 it sounds a little bit like the current motion city. The Future freaks Me Out-11/10 my favorie song on this album Indoor Living- 8/10 a little slow but i like it My Favorite Accident-8/10 a little slow again but its good stuff Perfect Teeth- 9/10 its good. i like how it sounds. Boombox Generaton-9/10 just a good track Don't Call It a Comeback-10/10 i like the voacals in this a lot. and how the song flows. Modern Chemistry-8/10 a good track, nothing very special Capital H-9/10 i like it a lot. Red Dress-7/10 its ok. im not really into this song. Mary Without a Sound- 9/10 i like it. its different Autographs & Apologies-8/10 another slow one. A-OK-10/10. good stuff =] If you were to buy one track from here id say the future freaks me out dont call it a comeback or A-OK overall i like it. its good motion city.

A leading light in the punk-pop genre, Motion City Soundtrack includes members Joshua Cain (guitar), Tony Thaxton (drums), Justin Pierre (vocals/guitar), Jesse Johnson (Moog), and Matthew Taylor (bass). Following their high-school graduation, Minneapolis natives Pierre and Cain — both of whom were inspired by Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbox, the Flaming Lips, and Superchunk — formed the band in 1999.
