Album Review

After a three-year layoff, Point of Grace return with a new member (former Truth vocalist Leigh Cappillino, who replaced founding member Terry Jones in early 2004) and a more aggressive, modern sound. I Choose You won't be mistaken for punk rock or electroclash, but its distorted guitars and drum loops do toughen up the candy shell surrounding the chocolate center that is the quartet's rich vocal harmony sound. Those musical elements don't do much to relieve the banal obviousness of their devotional lyrics, however: on "Down" they waste a lot of breath reminding God that He's big and powerful ("You are so much more than me" — well, duh), and on "For All You've Done" they manage to make Christ's atonement sound like a janitorial project ("Oh cleanser of the mess I've made" — yeesh). If you don't listen to the words very closely, though, you can float along perfectly happily on the dense and professionally gritty arrangements, the sumptuously rich vocal harmonies, and the radio-ready pop hooks. And if you find yourself starving for lyrical substance, hold on until the last track, which features an extended reading from The Pilgrim's Progress.

I Choose You

I really loved this album. It has rich voices and gorgeous harmonies, but still has rockin electric guitars. It has an amazing overall effect. It still has the beautiful voices that all Point of Grace fans love, but some of the music is to a quicker tempo. The album has some slower music, and some faster, more modern music. It has something for everyone. It is really a great album - very good considering they have a new band member - Leigh. Congratulations, Point of Grace, on a job very well done.

I Choose This Album

This is one of my favorite things on my iPod, seriously. I love listening to the band's rich sounds no matter what kind of mood I'm in. I also appreciate how all of the songs are different (sometimes I buy an album and find out that all of their songs are practically the same) in their unique sound. A truly great buy!

Great CD!

The "album review" was written by someone who doesn't appreciate what POG is about. Every song on this CD is great. Unlike earlier albums this one has been produced extremely well. Not that the others were horrible but the mix is flawless which brings out the tasty licks of these awesome musicians. Great job guys. We're ready for more.

The CCM vocal group began touring, and a first-place finish in the group competition at the Christian Artists Seminar in Estes Park, CO caught the eye of the Word label, which signed the quartet, releasing a self-titled debut album in 1993.
