Do yourself a favor and check this one out!
Very tasty tracks here that are nothing like his huge hits with Aretha and under his own name include the opener, "I Need Your Love" with its flute accents, midtempo beat and his bright yet understated vocals. This is music for romance as well as dancing, very nearly a concept album if you listen to the first four tracks in a row. "I Remember" and "So Long" are also standout performances.
The lyrics tell concise, memorable stories of love and loss. Then there's the drumming here...beautifully recorded and mixed!
Anyone who remembers or wants to discover intelligent, soulful music that defies categories and takes advantage of the best production techniques available during the late 70s will enjoy this album. Best heard at full volume, or through a quality set of headphones.
