iTunes Review

As the voice of Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker projected an appealing combination of strength and humility. His rich, resonant tone and Carolinian accent gave character to the band’s material and these same qualities are heard on Learn to Live, Rucker’s debut as a country artist. Darius doesn’t strain to reinvent himself as a honky-tonk cowboy or a Nashville rebel here. For the most part these are likeably down-to-earth tunes that make this ex-rock star seem like the guy next door. “Forever Road,” “History in the Making,” and “It Won’t Be Like This for Long” ride easy grooves as Rucker applies his trademark vibrato to family-friendly lyrics. He sings routine fare like the title track and “Alright” with enough warmth to make them (and him) sound believable. Rucker puts some resentful edge into the cheeky breakup song “All I Want” and gets a little risqué on the comical “Drinkin’ and Dailin’.” More typical is “Be Wary of a Woman,” a playful number despite its ominous title. Learn to Live favors a smooth, largely twang-free production approach. For his part, Rucker sounds thoroughly comfortable, happy to leave Hootie behind.

we better "Learn To Live" life with Darius Rucker for a long time!

we're all going to have to "Learn To Live" life with Darius Rucker for a long time after this masterpiece! He is back at home now with his roots of country. After growing up in South Carolina, creating the band Hootie & the Blowfish, life takes him full circle back to Country. If you need further encouragement, take the time to listen to "It won't be like this for long", of course his hit single " don't think I don't think about it" and "all I want." If you are questioning whether to chance it on his CD, take it from me, you will not regret it...

awsome cross over album

im not to big of a fan of pop and r&b singers crossin over to country ( Jewel and Jessica Simpson ) but Darius rucker really hit the nair on the head with this album. Even when he was with hootie and the blow fish he had a country sound, and he finally put it all together to make an amazing country album, ( listen to "All I Want" and "Drinkin and dialin" ). I would really recomend buying the whole album to any true country fan, you wont be disapointed.

Absolutely Amazing

I am a fan of Hootie and the Blowfish, and Darius' voice so I was anxious for this album to come out. After listening to it all the way through, I am blown away. This could possibly be the best record I have ever bought, top to bottom , in any genre. There is not a bad song on it. For Darius' first time to bat as a country artist, he hits a home run. You will not be disappointed with this purchase in the least.

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s

As the frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker changed the face of mainstream pop/rock in the mid-'90s. Songs like "Hold My Hand" and "Only Wanna Be with You" peppered Hootie & the Blowfish's popular debut, which eventually sold over 16 million copies and became one of the most successful albums of all time. Hootie & the Blowfish never revisited that meteoric success again, however, and the band took a break from recording after the release of Musical...
