Album Review

The soundtrack for a Don Was-produced documentary about the life and music of Brian Wilson, I Just Wasn't Made for These Times is a collection of new versions of Wilson's classic Beach Boys material. While most of the versions don't compare with the original recordings, the album remains a testament to the beauty of his work.

Customer Reviews

I just WAS made for these songs

My favorites are "Caroline No," (*sob sob*) "Melt Away," (We all can relate) "Love and Mercy," (that's what we need tonight) and "Warmth of the Sun." Just a beautiful album. The movie's cool too. (Unless you don't like black-and-white) If you like it, I reccomend The Beach Boys and Wilson Phillips.

Love and Mercy

Love and mercy is a very nice and soothing song

Oh My GOD where did this come from

This is great stuff for old Beach Boy Fans. I remember listening to Surf's Up on a cassette tape over and over again on a crazy drive to Austin in the early 70's. Now remastered ..... don't blow out your sub-woofers on this. This 2009 version offers some crystal clear old and new favs. Brian's voice is incredible and I'd like to say GREAT JOB everyone who worked on this.

Serving as the group's primary songwriter, Wilson combined the rock urgency of Chuck Berry with the harmonies of the Four Freshmen before expanding his musical imagination during the late '60s, during which time he experimented with new songwriting structures...
