Older stuff is definitely better!

I'm a huge LC fan so it hurts me to say this. The new album isn't all that great. It really feels like they are changing their sound just to break into the mainstream, but by doing that they've made a sub par record and have betrayed their original style. "Spellbound" and "The Maze" are easily the best songs on this record. The rest are just not that good. I miss the epic ballads from previous albums like "Without Fear" or "When a Dead Man Walks" or great up tempo songs like "Hyperfast", "Closer" and "Stars". I hope LC return to their original sound for the next album.

Lacuna Park?

Come on guys.. I understand you're exploring "different musical territories" but it seems to me like Don Gilmore's branding you guys with his some of his poppy production techniques. Also, whats the deal with some of these lyrics?? "I Like It" sounds like a combination of Sasha Fierce and Linkin Park. AND WTF IS WITH I'M NOT ENOUGH?? Sounds like Cristina is having some boy problems haha. Two stars.

I think I know who owns the P.A. System in Lacuna Coil....

Van Halen joked in the beginning that the only reason David Lee Roth was in the band was because he owned a P.A.. I'm kind of thinking maybe that's the case with Andrea as to how he got in Lacuna Coil... Why is this guy still in the band? If he were actually a great singer, next to Cristina, it could be amazing. No reflection on him as a person, I'm sure he's a great guy..... but his voice sounds like it was tuned a lot, because not once in the whole album does it sound natural, nor has it on any previous release. Live he sings really flat, and the quality of his voice compared to hers sounds really amateur. He still sounds like the guy in a high school garage band that was willing to sing and they let him in the band, just because they couldn't find anybody else. He could even be compared to Jar-Jar in the latest Star Wars movies.... you just had to keep asking... why was he there... and can a storm trooper please take care of him before he ruins the franchise completely....???

As for the production and sonic quality.. no faults there. Songs are good, some stronger than others... but no killer riffs that will go down in the history books of rock or make kids want to pick up a guitar and learn how to play. There are some interesting moments, the soul of LC is still there, and this will go into my rotation on my iPod...

If you like LC, it's a bit of a departure, but still it's LC. It might be accessible enough to introduce new fans to their music... but I'm hoping if they keep Andrea, that they find a better fit for him. Every time he sings, I wish he wouldn't.....

3 stars as is... 4 stars if I can get the ALL Cristina singing re-mix....

Biography

Formed: Milan, Italy

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

With the debut of their self-titled 1998 EP, Lacuna Coil (which translates to "empty spiral" in English) turned a lot of heads in Italy's ambient/goth scene thanks in part to Cristina Scabbia's haunting but mesmerizing vocals. Additional recognition came after a European tour with Moonspell and later with the Gathering and Seigmen. With the rest of Lacuna Coil's lineup in place — courtesy of Andrea Ferro (vocals), Cristiano Migliore (guitars), Marco Coti Zelati (bass), and Christiano Mozzati...
