iTunes Review
With a growing indie-rock fan base that included O.C. character Seth Cohen, Death Cab for Cutie finally moved up to a major label with Plans, their fifth full-length release. It’s both the modestly forward-looking effort past listeners would have expected and a bold leap forward. Ben Gibbard again sings for those with aching hearts, a bit puzzled about where they find their young lives going, but this time from a more resolutely grown-up position. Like R.E.M. before them, Death Cab is building an impressive catalog from diverse blocks that click into place nicely.

One of the best albums i've heard in a while
Before this album, i had no clue who Death Cab for Cutie was. Someone from school gave me this album and said i would like it. Now, i'm a huge fan. This album embodies all aspects of a ggreat album, great lyrics, beautiful music, and a heart put right into everything. I've listened to this album alot so i know what i'm saying. Marching Bands of Manhattan: What a pefect way to start this album. Builds with a slow guitar and nice lyrics and then breaks off into a touching "Your love is gonna drown" thing. It keeps building and the piano note finishes it off. Great song. 9.5/10 Soul Meets Body: Kind of overated. Don't get me wrong, it's a good song but it isn't as amazing as some of the others. It's got a cool guitar part. 8/10 Summer skin: Kind of wierd but i like it alot. Really interesting lyrics and very riding. The space in this song really makes it whole. 9/10 Different Names for the Same Thing: Yeah, it's pretty good. Starts ot mellow with a good, powerful piano and voice. Then, breaks off into a funky cool rock thing that was really good and cool. Great song. Not one of the very very best, tohugh. 8.5/10 I Will Follow You Into the Dark: Some of the greatest and most powerful lyrics i have ever heard. This song made me believe that music mixed with lyrics can make something so powerful it blows your head off. A very simple song with just guitar and vocals, but it is so beautiful , it makes me emotional every time. What a great song. 10/10 Your Heart is an Empty Room: Once again, a phnomenol lyrical job that i actually relate to very much. I like this song, i think it's very catchy.Idk, it isnt the very best song ever but i really like it. 9/10 Someday You Will Be Loved: Nothing really to special about it. A pretty average song, but average doesnt cut it on an album like this. idk, it didn't move me like some of the others did. Worst on the album. 8/10 Crooked Teeth: Pretty good. First time i listened i didn't think much of it, but next time i thought it was good. It's kind of interesting and i really like this song. Lyrics are really good, as always. 8.5/10 What Sarah Said: Woww, deep. Some of the best lyrics ever written. I compare this and "I will follow you into the dark" up with Bob Dylan's poetry. This song is beautiful and disturbing. It kind of freaks me out. First time i listened to it, i didn't get all the stuff about death, but next time, wow. Approach this song with caution. Great song. 10/10 Brothers on a Hotel Bed: Absolutely Beautiful. To go from "What Sarah Said" into this truly moves me beyond anything i have hear in a long time. I believe this is one of the climaxes of the album. It's totally emotionally driven and the lyrics are fantastic. 9.5/10 Stable song: Lol, i love this song. What an outstanding finisher to an insanely good album. Starts slow with an amazing melody and heads into a power driven finally. Who could have asked for a better ending. One of my top favorites. 9.5/10 Overall: An amazing album. I took this album on my iPod went on a vacation to Kauii (Small island of Hawaii) and this album became the soundtrack for that trip. This album is crazy. It takes you on an emotional journey that really makes you feel something. That is what seperates great albums from good ones, if you can feel it. If it gives you a certain feeling that you can't explain. This album most definetly does give me an extrodanary feeling, and its more than i couldve ever asked for. This album is absolutely outstanding. 10/10.
Bittersweet and beautiful.
This album is worth buying for Marching Bands of Manhattan, Soul Meets Body and Brothers on a Hotel Bed alone - these are phenomenal songs I still love after years of listening. Seriously, buy these songs immediately. That being said, I do like many of the other songs, but they just aren't on heavy rotation for me, and others are just too bleak to listen to unless it's a really rainy winter day and I'm in the mood for it. That could be just me though.
great album!!!
this is such an amazing album, definitely worth buying!!! my favorite song on it is I Will Follow You Into The Dark, i cry every time i hear it, it's so beautiful.
