iTunes Review

In only a few short years, Nirvana altered the playing field for every “alternative” band that struggled through the 1980s or soldiered through the 1990s. With one swift kick of “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Nirvana broke through to the musical mainstream with an anthem for a new generation and helped introduce another way of thinking about and making music. This 14-track summary features highlights from each of their three studio albums, a couple from their MTV Unplugged collection, and a previously unreleased track, “You Know You’re Right” that’s every bit as solid and confrontational as the best Kurt Cobain tunes. The band’s entire catalog is worth hearing and cherry-picking favorites is a personal affair when obvious chart action isn’t the only rule. That said, this collection features the obvious singles, “Teen Spirit,” “In Bloom,” “Lithium,” “Heart-Shaped Box,” as well as fan favorites, “Rape Me,” “About a Girl,” “Dumb,” and the David Bowie cover of “The Man Who Sold the World,” where Cobain’s emotional and parched plea is stunning in its eerie uneasiness with the world at hand.

Nirvana

Great hits, this album is how I discovered my favorite rock group. However, iTunes is still missing one of Nirvana's albums, Incesticide. If you think iTunes should put this album on, click that this review was helpful.

Normally I would give this album 5 stars, but I think it's just more money in Courtney's pocket. The music is good. Not a bad song on it. I'm sorry I gave rape me a bad review last time. In return I have a full run down of the album right here. You know you're right. My family hates this song. But Me and my friends love it. It's a good final unreleased recording. 5/5 About A Girl. Nirvana's first hit. I enjoy it. It is the best song. (From the album Bleach). 4.5/5 Been a son. This is EP version because if you have incesticide (Album not on iTunes) you will hear the real version. Technically not off an album. 4.5/5 Sliver. Everybody thinks it's SILVER. But it's really SLIVER. I don't know what this single version crap is. My band is learning to play it. From the album Incestide. 5/5 Smells Like Teen Spirit. Nirvana's most popular song. And for a good reason. NOTE: IF YOU THINK YOUR A NIRVANA FAN AND YOU ONLY LIKE THIS SONG....YOUR NOT. From Nevermind. 5/5 Come As you Are. One of their better songs. From Nevermind. 5/5 Lithium. Sometimes I wonder why it's a hit. But it's still good all the same. From Nevermind. 4/5 In Bloom. Great gituar beginning, Unexpectidley a hit from their most popular album Nevermind. 5/5 Heart Shaped Box. I love this song. The best from In Utero. 5/5 Pennyroyal tea. A strange song about tea being a drug. What's with this single mix crap? From In Utero. 4.5/5 Rape me. Oddley good. From the album In Utero. 3.5/5 Dumb. Possibly one of the best songs Kurt Cobain Ever wrote. From In Utero. 5/5 All Apologies. I wish it wasen't live. A mysterious ending to Nirvana. Originally from In Utero. Live version from Unplugged In New York. 3.5/5 The Man Who sold The world. An unbelieveablly good remake of the original song by David Bowie. It's only live. From Unplugged In New York. This is probably the most accurate iTunes review on this album you'll ever see.

DON'T LET THE ITUNES DEMOS FOOL YOU!!!!!!

-iTunes HAS A BAD HABIT OF PLAYING THE BAD PARTS OF SONGS, so the people who are listening to them don't want to buy them. -I am to young to remember Nirvana when Kurt Cobain was still alive, but i knew they were a "cool" band, even though i had never really heard their songs. -I bought "Smells like Teen Spirit" because if it was Nirvanas top hit...it had to be good....of course iTunes plays the TERRIBLE PART OF THE SONG WHERE IT DOESN'T SOUND COOL, but i was willing to take the chance (i had never heard it b4)... i played that song about 30 times in about 7 hours after i bought it......it is one of my favorite songs of all time... DONT LET THOSE iTunes PEOPLE F00L U! -think about it.... $0.99 is less than a Coke....and u get to listen to it forever....cokes last wut...20 minutes?

Biography

Formed: 1987 in Aberdeen, WA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s

Prior to Nirvana, alternative music was consigned to specialty sections of record stores, and major labels considered it to be, at the very most, a tax write-off. After the band's second album, 1991's Nevermind, nothing was ever quite the same, for better and for worse. Nirvana popularized punk, post-punk, and indie rock, unintentionally bringing it into the American mainstream like no other band to date. While their sound was equal parts Black Sabbath (as learned by fellow Washington underground...
