King of the slide guitar

All of these discs are great they cover all the same tunes. Whichever one you choose you will be happy. All blues classics covered by the likes of clapton, hendrix, thorogood, stevie ray, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Katie Webster and many more.

World Class

Elmore James is one of the great authentic blues men. Long Dead, his music lives on. Soulful slide guitar work and haunting voice. He was very influential on other greats to come including Jimi Hendrix. Forgotten by popular culture today, he is now a dusty old jewel waiting to be rediscovered. There is another great in his band. His cousin, Homesick James.

A true blues master

Elmore is the cat that will send chills up and down your spine. Need evidence? Then let me direct you to a little song called Rollin and Tumblin. This song is one of the baddest blues songs ever recorded. Top five at least. The thing that makes this song really stand out is how volatile it is. I mean this is a band on the brink and a vocalist who ain't taking crap from anyone. The song makes you think that the night they performed this live in Chicago or whatever, mob bosses were being offed in the back alley behind the club! It is a timeless song.

No two ways about it, the most influential slide guitarist of the postwar period was Elmore James, hands down. Although his early demise from heart failure kept him from enjoying the fruits of the '60s blues revival as his contemporaries Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf did, James left a wide influential trail behind him. And that influence continues to the present time — in approach, attitude and tone — in just about every guitar player who puts a slide on his finger and wails the blues....
