Album Review
Silverchair's debut album, Frogstomp, faithfully follows the alternative rock tradition of Nirvana and Pearl Jam, which means that the group of Australian teenagers winds up sounding not like their idols, but like Stone Temple Pilots and Bush. For their age, their instrumental capabilities are quite impressive, as the guitars and vocals growl with the force of rockers in their early 20s. At the same time, their songwriting abilities aren't as strong, and they are never able to break away from the standard grunge formula. Nevertheless, the record does deliver a collection of songs replicating the thunder of "Tomorrow."
Customer Reviews
SUPERB...but their best? HARDLY
I LOVE this album. Grunge done right, and by a trio of 15 year old kids no less! This style of music has been done and re-done over and over through the last 20 years and hardly anyone seems to nail it. Infact, NOBODY nails it anymore. But, Silverchair put this album out showing they were true prodigies of musical talent, better than 90% of the adults doing the same thing at the time. Even so...when Daniel Johns was recently approaced with the comment "Daniel...Frogstomp...what happened?" his response was "Oh f*#k you just ruined my day...HEAPS happened!" This was only the beginning of their greatness. Each album after this progresses so far it's uncanny. This was perfect teenage angst rock, but they aren't kids anymore You want to see true musical progression, listen to each of their albums. You tunnel-visioned one sided meat head rockers won't get it, but those that appreciate true musical genious and integrity, don't let this be your only Silverchair record!
geniune rock
one of the top ten albims of the 90s, a close following behind pearl jams 10 and soundgardens superunknown. they may have been young but with the power of growling vocals, the raucus growl of chris's drums, to the pounding in your head bass lines, these guys were a force of 90's rock nature.
This Rocks in so many ways
Don't wash your hair, don't shave, tie a long sleeve shirt around your waste, and bang your head to some of the best grunge to ever grace a cd. Silverchair at this point proves that age does not define talent.
