iTunes Review
Massive Attack had been away from the new-release racks for several years when Mezzanine, its third album, came out in 1998. But the tidal wave of lightweight trip-hop pretenders that had appeared in the gap hardly detracted from the set's power. On sonic terms alone, the music was often startling (for example, the layers and layers of sound on "Inertia Creeps") or unexpected (as on the instrumental "Exchange," which actually recalls Art of Noise's "Moments in Love" in its vision of ethereal, sensual electronica). Guest vocalist and former Cocteau Twin Elisabeth Fraser brings an element of light to what's often thought of as the group's darkest album, recalling English folk music with her vocal on "Teardrop." Likewise, reggae favorite Horace Andy returns; his "Man Next Door" brings to mind the qualities of a '70s Jamaican semi-classic. But Mezzanine is ultimately timeless.
Customer Reviews
For real
This is one of the best albums ever made. period. It breaks barriers and introdcued people, like me, to trip-hop/ alternative music.
Indescribable
No way. How can people pass this by? I know Heligoland is the new, popular Massive Attack album but this is a classic. Its brilliantly constructed sound and beautiful musicality puts it at the top.
This album is great if you're:
Chilling.
Hanging with friends.
In your car.
At your house.
On Earth.
A fan of trip hop.
A pretty cool guy.
So be a pretty cool guy and get this album now. However you choose to get it, whether it benefits the artist or not, give this a listen.
Amazing
I love Teardrop and I will never get tired of hearing it! <3
