Warrant had a tough time living down their huge hit “Cherry Pie,” and this 1992 album (their third and last big seller) is a reaction against that earlier version of the pop that made them famous. Helmed by producer Michael Wagener (Mötley Crüe), the band went for the jugular. Underrated songwriter/singer Jani Lane was already memorializing his own fleeting rock stardom here (“Andy Warhol Was Right,” “The Bitter Pill”) while still celebrating fame (the anthemic “Hollywood [So Far So Good]”). There are many other memorable—yet overlooked— moments, including “Sad Theresa,” which moves from Alice Cooper–like balladry to headbanger rage.
