Album Review
Like many late '90s outfits, the Los Angeles-based Ozomatli is an eclectic conglomeration, fusing a wild variety of music. At its core, the group is a dance band, blending funk, hip-hop, Latin rhythms, jazz, salsa, reggae, Tejano, and worldbeat into its sound. It's a busy, heady mix and occasionally there's simply too much going on in the mix for it to be easy to digest. Nevertheless, it's easy to admire a group that challenges the listeners, and Ozomatli certainly do that with their eponymous debut album. Not only is the music dense and exciting, but the lyrics are politically charged and daring, adding substance to the infectious music. The result is an album that is both entertaining and rewarding — not a bad achievement for a debut.

This is the first album from Ozomatli and it is one of the best albums I owned. One of the best buys of your life!!!
guaranteed to make you wanna dance
This album never gets old. Whenever I listen to it, I think of all the Ozomatli shows I've seen. Let me tell you - these guys don't disappoint! I've been to almost every show in the Seattle area since 1998. Though I do enjoy the new music, this is my favorite.
FINALLY!!!
Probably this is the definitive Ozomatli album. While they have gone in many different directions since, this is by far the best album. 1) Because it is so much jazzier (Note "O Le Le" and "Donde Se Fueron?") 2) This is the album where 2 members of J-5 (and one split member)really start to get noticed as being sick. They define this album and leave us wanting for more of them. Finally you guys have this album so those of us who neither can find the CD nor want to download it "illegally" (the RIAA is also attacking smaller websites who play music on their sites because of violations of the same copyright laws; though college radio is exempt for the moment, but I don't trust the Supreme Court in power right now; that's another story altogether) can download it. This is the quintessential Ozomatli album!! Thank you iTunes!!
