iTunes Review

New York’s Les Savy Fav has come back six years after 2001’s Go Forth hitting hard, with fresh energy, a new voice, and a focus that nails what the band has long aimed for. (Friends from bands such as Enon and Black Heart Procession make appearances here, providing additional character and texture to the endeavor.) They’ve succeeded on Let’s Stay Friends (their fourth studio album), and the title is a nod to the themes at work here: integrity, loyalty, and following one’s heart/gut. “Pots and Pans” opens like a simple rock song, no hardcore/post-punk angst in site, Harrington’s voice calmly narrating the saga of a beaten-down band hanging on to their dream, while the drums slowly roll out the foundation, and guitars twinkle and cartwheel. There’s something a little fantastical about the song, recalling the Flaming Lips at moments. But then, with the slightest pause, the band kicks into the raging “The Equestrian,” all Les Savy Fav punk passion. These opening tracks set the tone for a work comprised of both sweet and savory, of thoughtfully controlled force ... a work of great reward for the listener.

Let's stay friends forever

Even if you never heard about Les Savy Fav before, this album will make a believer for the initiate. The band is known for their raw and energetic performance, if you never seen them in concert, give it a try, it will be one you will never forget (especially when Tim starts to strip down to his skivvies and go down on the crowds, quite interactive). I find that this album shows a real growth on the band's sound, 6 years is a long time, and you can hear it in their music. Tim Harringtons actually sings on this album, the songs are a welcome change, a lot more playful and enjoyable, it grows on you on repeat listening. Entertainment Weekly gave them an A-, and an 8.3 from Pitchfork. I hope they will release Patty Lee as their next single (you can find the video on YouTube), the guitar work on this song is amazing, reminds you of New Order in the 80s, a real classic. I recommend to download Pots and Pans, Patty Lee, and What Wolves Do?.

A Diamond in the wasteland

Brlliant release from one of the few good bands around. Buy it. Play it. Love it. Repeat.
