iTunes Review
Sweden’s Shout Out Louds add an existential dimension with their second studio album, 2007’s Our Ill Wills. The shimmering ephemeral pop of their debut, 2005’s Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, has been augmented with the sound of experience and a few creepy synth lines. Whereas their debut was the sound of celebration, the follow-up is the sound of the clean-up, the tallying of expense and the realization that debts eventually come due. While death makes itself known on the seductively nippy “Time Left for Love,” mostly it’s a simple, somber overcast vibe that surrounds the easeful shuffle of “Blue Headlights,” where the harmonies skip through the raindrops and dripping piano notes. From obscure popsters such as the Clientele, Trembling Blue Stars and the Apartments to the more mainstream-acknowledged heroes, the Cure and Bright Eyes, Shout Out Louds have found a complex, paradoxical musical place where their joyful rhythms are met with chords that hang in the air with foreboding grace (“Impossible”). They may never reclaim the innocence of their debut, but they’re growing up in style.

So Much Fun!
I absolutely adore Our Ill Wills. I'm a huge Shout Out Louds fan, so I may be biased, but I'm still very, very pleased. The album seems more upbeat than Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, and maybe even more instrumental. "Tonight I Have to Leave It" and "Time Left for Love" have been my instant favorites for some time now (thanks to the single and SOL's MySpace page), but there are no songs I dislike. The story in "Parents Livingroom" is adorable. Each member really shines on this album, and if you have an opportunity to see Shout Out Louds live, you should definitely take advantage of it! Hearing the songs on your computer/iPod is one thing. Hearing them live is something else! Highly, highly recommended, for new and old Shout Out Louds fans alike.
They Make Happy Music Sad
Dark lyrics, rising choruses, and instrumental orchestration join forces to make "Our Ill Wills," one of the few must have albums of the year. "Your parents Living Room, " "Impossible," and "Normandie," highlight an album full of potential chart toppers. If this Swedish born and bred band doesn't become popular in the states than we have a music crisis. Their pop/glam roc/emo/soft punk/pyschedlic new wave fusion of what I like to call sad punk has truly cemented the SHout Out Louds with a unique sound and vision.
Wow!
Rarely do I find an album that I like to listen all the way through. The whole album is beautiful. Yes, the singer does once in a while slightly sound similar to Robert Smith. It is an album you will listen to over and over and over all the way through. The lyrics and music is very catchy. I bought the albumn for their two poplular songs and ended up loving the whole thing. I also just saw them play in San Francisco and they are just as good live.
