The odd couple here isn’t the pairing of producer Danger Mouse and his soul singing sidekick Cee-Lo; they work together in perfect concert. No, it’s the yin-yang of retro-futuristic grooves keeping things in flux and in question that’s the odd coupling maintaining Gnarls Barkley as an intriguing enterprise. The duo can never recreate the element of surprise that ignited their debut 2006’s St. Elsewhere, but they do apply an accomplished level of craft and knowing musical cues to their eclectic mixes. “Who’s Going to Save My Soul” evokes the early-‘70s Philly soul that comes with such a title. But “Going On” and “A Little Better” traverse the galaxies, tapping into space with kinetic beats that slow as they ground to earth. The album’s first single, “Run (I’m a Natural Disaster),” steps up the beats per minute to elicit an extra burst of excitement but the sedately-paced “Would-Be Killer” and “Open Book” are every bit as alluring and satisfying. Throw in the ‘60s pop undertow of “Whatever,” “Surprise” and “Blind Mary” and it’s clear Gnarls Barkley are interested in spanning history as much as writing a new chapter.

Fantastic

Reading the negative reviews of this CD makes me want to hurt myself. There is no basis for the negative argument besides the fact that the song 'Crazy' isn't on here. The reason people have such a hard time with artists like Gnarls - is that they are endlessly confused when their new music comes out because it sounds so different from their previous CD - the reason is, is because with artists like Gnarls - they are constantly reinventing themselves - discovering new ways to express their ridiculously creative souls. This album delivers - let me tell you, lyrically stunning, and the melodies are sick. To give this CD anything lower than four stars is petty and unfounded. Rock on Gnarls - good f'n job.

Truly An Odd Pairing

When Gnarls Barkley came on to the scene with their smash hit Crazy, no one could get enough of their fresh, new sound. Everyone wanted to describe them by making a comparison to someone else, but they couldn't. That is because the combination of Cee-lo and Danger Mouse creates something indescribeable. It combines so many genres that no one is sure what to call it- except great music. Gnarls's debut album, despite a couple solid singles, barely reached pltinum sales. Fans of their singles need to understand that what you hear on their singles is duplicated throughout the rest of the album. The Odd Couple is no exception. But, if for some reason, you only want to purchase a few songs, we'll take a closer look: Charity Case- Cee-Lo's raspy vocals shine through here nicely while still promoting a good cause. Solid opening. 4/5 Stars. Who's Gonna Save My Soul- this song is bound to be one of the more popular ones from this album. Cee-Lo is crying out for help on here and his emotions are very authentic. 5/5 Stars. Going On- Danger Mouse shines with his sped-up production and creates a definite foot-tapper. 5/5 Stars. Run- the album's first single. This is probably the most mainstream song besides Who's Gonna Save My Soul. Simply an overall good song. Check out the funny video for it. 5/5 Stars. Would Be Killer- this is one of the weirder songs on The Odd Couple. Look no further than the title. Most times, this will be a skipper. 3/5 Stars. Open Book- the lyrics shine here. Gnarls Barkley proves shows that it is possible to create great music while still being socially-conscious. 4/5 Stars. Whatever- another case where Danger Mouse's production is the big draw. I would recommend to any fans of his that you check out The Grey Album, where he meshes The White Abum by The Beatles with The Black Album by Jay-Z. It is a masterpiece. 5/5 Stars. Surprise- a solid song. The chorus is lacking, and holds back the overall effort. 3.5/5 Stars. No Time Soon- this song has some genius ideas to it. First, the lyrics are wonderful and talk about how precious time is. But even better, the production gives a feeling like time is about to run out which pairs perfectly with the song. 5/5 Stars. She Knows- Cee-Lo is back with his jazzy-sounding vocals. His vocals shine, but the whole song doesn't feel complete. 3.5/5 Stars. Blind Mary- the title is sure to attract many people, but this is not a strong point on the album. 2.5/5 Stars. Neighbors- a solid overall song. The chorus is a standout and the production also shines. 4/5 Stars. A Little Better- the song is wonderful lyrically. The potent lyricism carries on to the rest of the song, creating one of the better tracks. 4.5/5 Stars. Top 5 Songs: 1)Who's Gonna Save My Soul 2)No Time Soon 3)Run 4)Whatever 5)Going On Final Thoughts: Gnarls Barkley creates another wonderful album. Everytime you finish listening to them, a feel of refreshment takes over. They are just such a unique sound and can pull off the strangest of arrangements. The combination of Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse is a wonderful, and truly Odd Couple.

Ceelo and Danger Mouse are the Masters of Music

The super hot duo Gnarls Barkley come out with another great album. They're songs range from dark and disturbed to sexy dance pop. The are the most excitable and versatile group in music now. Save some room on the shelf for awards boys because it is another masterpiece. If you love their first album entirely, buy the album you won't regret it. If you love their dance pop beats listen to run. You'll love. For my goths check out who's gonna save my soul. It's this albums "Just A Thought" Once again there is no sophomore slump for Gnarls Barkley. They are pros.
