iTunes Review

Toby Keith’s 13th studio album’s opening title-track puts politics on the back burner, leaning harder on lyrics that rip on modern-day pop culture instead. The topical “American Ride” is a catchy little twang-rocker that tries to make sense of global warming, rising gas prices, reality television, instant pop stars, YouTube and, of course, the economy. But it’s actually the only song here that he didn’t write — Jimmy Wayne’s producers Joe West and Dave Pahanish did because they thought Keith was the only guy who could pull it off, though he may have been a bit reticent at first; Keith had the song’s demo on his iPod for a year before recording it. Most of these other tunes — the ones that Keith had a hand in writing — are mellower than usual and reveal a maturing sense of his vulnerable side, especially in the lovelorn sentiment of “Are You Feelin’ Me,” as well as the amorous ballad “Tender As I Wanna Be” and “Cryin’ for Me (Wayman’s Song),” a moving dedication to a departed friend of Keith’s — basketball player and jazz musician Wayman Tisdale.

American Ride in my American Ride

I just ordered Toby Keith's new album, "American Ride". This new album has alot to offer the Toby fan.
First of all, "American Ride" the title track, has already recieved rave reviews and is very popular on the country radio stations. Every song is a little different and does not get boring.
"Every Dog has His Day" confirms to me Toby is continuing to have his day.
"Look ma no hands!"; a line in the title track portrays how we all go out and learn and try new things. Like the first time you rode your bike without training wheels, YOU WERE EXCITED.

I am excited to crank up "American Ride" in my American ride and cruise down a country road.

P.S. I have been listening to more of Toby's new one, Wayman's Song and I am loving this cd more and more!

Love it!

Lyrically, yet another fav! Musically, another fav too! LOVED the bluesy feel of "If You're Tryin' You ain't" and "loaded" - fabulous! I think Toby really showed his range with this album. Personally, I love the more upbeat songs, but overall it's a good mix. Another fantastic album! Thanks Toby!

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Toby Keith spent the '90s as a solid, workmanlike country star who met with considerable chart success, yet never quite broke free of the neo-traditionalist pack to become a household name like Garth Brooks or Alan Jackson. That all changed in 2002 when he recorded "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue...
