Album Review

It's another time-warp trip back to the heyday of synth pop, as Deadsy returns with another fusion of dour monotone vocals and heavy-tread drums sandwiched between buzzsaw bass and spectral, high-register keyboards. A guest shot by Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis on "The Key to Gramercy Park" reminds listeners of the band's currency, but it's easy to mistake Commencement for an '80s artifact. The impression is only made clearer by the Eno textures that drape the stately intro to "Winners" and the unlikely cover of "Tom Sawyer," complete with full Rush flavoring in the 7/8 interlude and roaring bass work. Fans of vintage electronica will wallow blissfully in the album's many sinkholes of subsonic analog sound, but for those who favor the digital muse (or, for that matter, bands that have kicked the keyboard habit), Commencement may pose a few challenges. ~ Robert L. SheLikesBigWords

Commencement is a great album from and very unknown and unique band. Deadsy is different from anything I've ever heard and they have a great sound thats unlike any other band out there. The keyboard and synths in this are brilliant and the guitar riffs give the songs a metal like feel to them. This CD contains great songs like "She Likes Big Words", "The Key To Grammercy Park", and an amazing cover of Rush's "Tom Sawyer". Deadsy sounds like and 80's new wave/techno group with bonecrushing guitar riffs that almost make them synth metal. The band is very unique and I highly suggest you check them out.

DEADSY the revolutionarie band

all right if you dont like deadsy then dont review them because just cause you don't them doesnt mean other people don't cause deadsy is an amazing band with lots of talent and the synthh sound great they have great songs like " she like big words " and " future years " and " brand new love "

Unique

the keyboards mixed with the dense guitars make for a winning combination. Elijah Blue and Co. are stunning in their debut. Please check out phantasmagore, it is also very well done. their cover of tom Sawyer is worthy of the original. John Davis comes in on the opening track and makes it better than ever. A superb sense of rythm and majestic melodies make this the most underrated album of that year. The closest thing to Rush in the modern era. Too bad they do not put more material out on the market.

Commencement was supposed to be released in 1999, as well as a new home in the form of Korn's label Elementree. But the album was inexplicably pulled from release while the band continued to try and promote themselves through touring. Successful...
