iTunes Review

Having firmly established itself as a true heavy metal warrior—never seduced by the potential riches awaiting should it turn pop—Iron Maiden used its esteemed status in the metal community to further indulge its musical complexities. Whether it’s the 13-plus minutes of the multisectional “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” (based on the Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem) or the intense guitar dueling of the instrumental “Losfer Words (Big ‘Orra)” or the appropriately titled “The Duellists,” Powerslave—the British band’s fifth album—never relents in its quest to cover new metal ground. The twin-guitar attack of Dave Murray and Adrian Smith is given wide berth. The harmonized solos are complex and add a hypnotic swirl to the trademarked galloping Maiden rhythms. “2 Minutes to Midnight” even was a bit of a hit for the group (despite its six-minute length), whereas the quick-churning “Aces High” sums up the Maiden approach in four and a half minutes. For heavy metal purists, there's no substitute for this uncompromising band of virtuosos.

One of the best

Apparently all the reviews got wiped off or something, so I now get the honor of being the only one to appear!

Basically, I'm not going to tell you this is the best, because the best album is all a matter of opinion. However, I will say it's worth every penny you spend, every moment you take listening to this and every lawsuit you get after you knock out a few old ladies because you can't take how amazing and powerful this album is. If you're just starting to listen to Iron Maiden, this is a good launch point. Buy all of it; you won't be dissapointed.

Excellent album, but...

It's a remastered version.
Nothing against remastering something... but I personally think this one got the album wrong and the result is not good. Iron Maiden always had a loud and characteristic bass, and with the remaster, they tried to make the bass do what it usually do in other bands. They just forgot that, in Iron Maiden, the bass is part of the melody, not just another component of the rythm (bad english, sorry).

Awesome album

This of is one of my favorite (next toNumber of the Beast). All the songs move you through the album.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Known for such powerful hits as "Two Minutes to Midnight" and "The Trooper," Iron Maiden were and are one of the most influential bands of the heavy metal genre. The often-imitated band has existed for over nearly four decades, pumping out wild rock similar to Judas Priest. Iron Maiden have always been an underground attraction; although failing to ever obtain any real media attention in the U.S. (critics claimed them to be Satanists due to their dark musical themes and their use of grim mascot "Eddie"),...
